I find this interesting... |
You know... I am very displeased with zugg software now....
I should hope that I am not the only person targeted with this email btw:
This email constitutes notification that you are in violation of the Digital
Millenium Copyright Act.
"I have in all truth started cracking my zmud because i got tired of the
elicense crap."
As a result of this violation, any order(s) that we can locate in our system
associated with you, now or in the future, will be disabled.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.
Regards,
Chris Doherty
(as pasted directly from my email)
Now, as I was NOT the only person to openly admit i have cracked it, i would suggest that everyone else gets this same email, and the same reprocussions. If you do not wish to settle this peacefully, I guess we can dance, but I am trully upset that you would stoop so low as to pull something like this. If you want my registration details, figure out who bought it for me... as I will NOT disclose that information to anyone from the zuggsoft company because of this email. In my opinion, as a business owner, this borders on harrassment.
Zugg, if you wish to resolve this peacefully, you may email me at demone_youngblood@hotmail.com, or catch me on aim at: demoneyoungblood.

Well, considering Zugg is a Mike, not a Chris, I would say the email is either from elicense who are upset that you are reverse engineering their software, or from a pissed-off user who wanted to give you a scare
So don't bring Zugg into it.
And "haha", by the way.

If i got scolded after I illegally software because I was too lazy or cheap to do it the legal, proper way through eLicense, i'd be pretty displeased too.
I sincerely hope that all crack users aren't caught and told that their actions are illegal and that they will be punished (in the way described by the email quote).

Why be displeased with Zugg software? Don't blame them for your mistake. You did the crime and now you are paying for it (because you refused to before heh). Just because you were sick and tired of the "elicense crap" in no way justifies your hacking his/their program. Just like im sick and tired of being simi-poor...but that doesn't give me the right to go rob a bank or something.
If you are sick and tired of the elicense crap then do 1 of 3 things.
1) simply stop using the software, easy enough
2) talk to Zugg (or the people at elicense) about it, suggest a better, more user friendly way to handle the elicense crap
3) take it like a man, deal with your problems instead of stabbin people in the back and then cryin when they retaliate.
btw quote: I am trully upset that you would stoop so low as to pull something like this.
you said it perfectly...

Please don't jump to conclusions. Don't assume right off the bat that it was Zugg that told eLicense about you. Don't wait for him to contact you, contact him yourself, tell him about the e-mail and ask him if he had anything to do with it (in a calm manner, of course).
Zugg doesn't normally like to take any legal action agaisnt people that have tried or have already cracked zMUD. However, I am not him, nor do I know him personally, so the correct course of action would be not to jump to conclusions, not start unbased rumors, and talk to him directly.

You know, the stupidity of some of the people here astounds me. Grif, had you been reading up on the
posts in the other threads (GRRRRRR elicense sucks, Zmud 6.40 Public Finally Released), then you would
know that yes, I have hacked zmud, but I also have a legit registration id. So before you criticize me, read
everything. Now, as far as Seamer goes....That was a really stupid thing to do...You come here and criticize me,
yet you yourself admitted in the other thread you cracked zmud, and it was not until just within these past 3
days that you yourself was given an order id from one of the other users here, so dont you try and act like an
angel, because you did the same thing. My whole point with this post was to bring to light discrimination, which
judging by your response proves I was correct, and I was the only one targeted. Makes things really interesting,
and makes you wonder... Why is it me thats being targetted....Because I was the only one that had the balls to
flat out say that elicense sucks, and hinders users all over the place, though we have only seen a few users respond
here, I can assure you there are many more. As far as my Order ID being deactivated. Good luck, Zmud was bought
as a gift for me, and is not tracable to the email address i used to signup here. I am truly ashamed of some of the
tactics being displayed here on these forums, and in personal emails.... Now its coming to discrimination over
someone admitting they hacked it, but has a valid id... I like that alot... lets keep going then...

Yes, I used a cracked copy of zmud...but read closer, i didnt whine and moan about the concept of license and delicense of eLicense. I admitted to cracking it because I felt the time was right, and I like being part of the community. Outcast or accepted, I would have accepted whatever came to me. Key point, I did what I did without acting like YOU acted. My problems with eLicense were not being able to remove it properly from the registry, and the ease at which zMud gets broken while LicCtrl is disabled. Legally owned or not, I was still trying to help other zmud users wherever I could (although not on the level of Kjata, Rainchild, TonDiening et al).
I'm sure that if I came here and said "zmud sucks because of elicense and i cracked it because i'm so cool in defiance against the man!!!" I'd have been treated like you are right now, and have copyright lawyers knocking on my door. I didnt wait till my crack was broken before I "fessed up", I admitted to using zmud because I like it -that much-.
And as for someone buying it for me, well, you had yours supplied by someone too for reasons that belong to you (i am not asking what they are). Does that make us different? No, what made us different is I'm grateful to both mr_kent and vijilante for being so generous to a total stranger. :) *end love fest*
Noone MADE you use zMUD, you chose to use it, warts and all

You know seamer, you just proved my point. If this were to get to court, which I dont think it will, your statements would cause a ton of damage to Zugg. Now, let me say this, going by the info in the email I recieved, your big mouth has hurt several people here. Yourself, AND the person that supplied your Order ID#, AND zugg/zuggsoft, if this were to reach court. (Im not saying im taking zuggsoft to court, i just want to know where the email truly originated, and would like a proper resolution suggested, as I do not appreciate being discriminated against.

Sounds like it was a joke to me.. Who did it come from then? A bad joke, if it was one..
Please, don't assume that Zugg/Zuggsoft had anything to do with it.. It could have been anyone that reads these forums and didn't like what you said. Did your ID actually get disabled?
Personally, I can't see any harm in getting software to work on your own computer without elicense or whatever, for me thats the same as copying CDs in order to use them yourself.. It's when people start giving such stuff away that the trouble starts.
BTW, which 'you' are you referring to? ;)

I hope he's not referring to me, the only email I've sent to anyone was a reply :P
Post the headers of the email here if you like, and someone will tell you the true origins. If you dont know how to get the headers, say so and someone will help.

In response to your question castaway, no my order id was not disabled. Now, that can be for 1 of 2 reasons. 1.)Its not under my name or email, a friend bought it for me as a christmas present. or 2.)Its a sick joke. Either way, whomever sent that email was very foolish as they could have cost someone alot of money. The only person that can straighten this out right now and remedy it is Zugg, which is why I am waiting on his response to these actions.

Ok, sorry for the immediate repost, i havent figured out how to edit the messages yet, and i just saw seamer's post after i finished. To quote myself "Referring to the email I recieved, your big mouth " blahblahblah. If you read the top post which contains the copied text, It states that any order id affiliated with me will be disabled. Now, because it would open up for a discrimination suit seamer you would have cost mr kent, yourself, vijilante, and the other person their order id's. Reasoning: Your post leads to investigation of other posts, which shows that those ids are being used by two others who had hacked zmud, so those order ids would have to be disabled. In the interrim, Mr Kent, and Vijilante must wait for new order ids, and you and the other fellow would again be to a.)cracking zmud, or b.)using another mud client. So yeah, i meant your big mouth. If the email i recieved was a joke, the person needs to speak up, and I will not take a personal email as speaking up at this point, as it has gone too far. At this point, I will only respond to a post here at the forum if it was a joke. As far as you wanting to help others seamer, thats great, I came here for help, and got it, and had been looking forward to help others as well. Once this is over, lets just see if we cant put this crap behind us? But for now, I continue to wait for this to be resolved.

That is the full email, so I now know where it came from, just decided to go with a reply to sender. Seems elicense had not thought about their actions. Now the only way to solve this is literally if Zugg intervenes, lol. (sorry for repetitive posts, ill figure out how to edit later :p)

Lets clarify something - mr_kent and vijilante LEGALLY OWN zmud, they both offered to donate/buy me a legitimate license after I "came out". Under that, I dont see how they stand to lose their id's :/ Or did I mis-explain earlier? In the thread where I talk about myself, you can see they both offered to help me out, its not a secret.
Just want to sort this out before it goes mental

Ok, I will explain this as easily as I can...
In the email from Mr. Doherty from Elicense:
"As a result of this violation, any order(s) that we can locate in our system
associated with you, now or in the future, will be disabled."
That is because I cracked zmud, which uses elicense...
Now, you and I dont remember who else it was also cracked it, but were both given an order id. So, between you and the other person that was given an order id, 4 others are affected by this. You, Mr Kent, Vijilante, and the other person (i still cant remember who it was). Unless Elicense/Viatech wishes severe criminal discrimination lawsuits, they have to cease and desist all actions faced against me, or they have to track down Mr. Kent's ids, Vijilante's and disable them, thus yours and person d's are disabled as well. Do you understand now? If not, contact me:

Im pretty sure you have at least one of those. I wish to get this crap resolved just as fast as you guys do, but I will not tolerate anyone, not even elicense pulling a discrimination bit :)

I'm sure Zugg will respond to this when he sees it, but until then you could post the headers of the e-mail message as they can lend some clues as to whether the e-mail return address is forged or not (assuming it purports itself to be @elicense.com).
In the meantime, be glad you didn't get served notice of violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. :P
Speaking to the difficulty of connecting your license and your forum account, I don't think it would be so hard as made out. Your IP address is most likely logged for the forums and I'd be very much shocked and surprised if it wasn't put in the eLicense database. In this case, it would become a matter of looking up your forum IP/IP range in the eLicense database.

Ok, in talking with seamer, it appears i misunderstood the posts i read in the other forum. It is not Vijilante and Mr Kent that are at risk, but Myself, Seamer, and the other christmas present reciever. Just thought id correct that now that I fully understand it, hehe.

Well, the bad news... pea.net provides DNS services for eLicense and may provide e-mail as well.
As near as I can tell, adelphia.net only provides cable internet access which would be unusual for a company to have. While Adelphia does not offer internet access at the address listed on the eLicense website, it is possible that that is only a contact address and the e-mail comes from a different address. However, none of these really tells much since it could be an employee logging on and doing e-mail from home.
Whoever it is, they're probably using a Dell laptop (I'm typing this on an Inspiron 4150 myself).

The "Yeah, but he did it too" defense isn't going to prevail in court. It has no bearing on your own guilt or innocence. Whether or not you own a legitimate license also has no bearing. I can own my own car and still steal someone else's. Elicense can selectively pursue any violator they see fit, and ignore any other at their own discretion.
IP Addresses of posts here are logged, but are not available except to Gurus (I can see them, Zugg can see them. Can't honestly remember if the other Gurus can see them). Even so, the IP used may not be the same as the IP last licensed with (if that's even tracked - I don't know. Fair to imagine it is).
If the user is on a fixed connection (cable, dsl, etc), the IP from this forum can be traced to a specific geographic area, if not a specific host. If the user is on a dialup connection through AOL or some similar national provider, tracing the IP would be harder, as all AOL traffic goes through several main proxies. Harder, but not impossible - depends on how cooperative the ISP is going to be.
If the IP from this forum can be used to narrow the range of possible elicense participants, they can probably find you. You've actually aided them by listing other email and IM addresses - the providers of those services can be subpoenaed to provide registration details.
I would take the email seriously, if I were you. If elicense is aware of a place where they're likely to see feedback on their system, they'd probably keep an eye on it. If they see a user there bragging about cracking it and announcing continued plans to crack it, they'd be foolish to ignore it.
If they asked for my help tracking down the user, I'd give it, with a smile on my face. Not only have you defrauded my friend Zugg, but DMCA gives pretty sweeping powers to copyright holders with the wherewithal to pursue violators - I'd hate to be under that microscope.
Have a nice day.

Wow. So I looked up the IP, and it looks like it's in the same Class B network as my own home IP. So I did a traceroute. Yep, you're on a cable modem.
So I wait for it to finish. You live not terribly far from me.
I wonder if there's much interest in me filming the US Marshals that arrive at your door to confiscate your computer. Mwahahaha.
Note, I didn't say where you live, or give your IP. A few people who know me will know the general vicinity I'm talking about, but not enough to invade your privacy.
This is SO entertaining.
