Mapper config

I, like some others, have a problem with the mapper recognising room details. I have been running mapper without room description as this seems to cause the biggest headache. So name and exits are recognised relatively successfully.

Aardwolf has tags for room info. Eg.,

Code:
[2087/2087hp 947/1485mn 2069/2070mv 48qt 447tnl] > {rname}The Sanctuary (G)
{rdesc}
  Though this sanctuary still contains exotic creatures from all over the world,
it has changed some since Nalani bought it from its previous owner. Gone are
the elephants and lions from Africa. Gone are the Irish red deer and the
Mexican spotted terrapin. The Peruvian climbing mouse was feared gone forever
too, but it was recently spotted sharing a bowl of milk with a rather large
tomcat. Nobody knows how or why, but the mouse seems to have been accepted as
an honorary cat.
The Sanctuary has been rebuilt to accommodate the various tastes and needs of
the new occupants, while still depicting the three 'Jewels' of the Tao. There
are trees to climb, boots to hide in and balls of yarn to chase. Lornaco keeps
the milk pond full (showing COMPASSION) and some volunteers show HUMILITY by
keeping  the huge but discreet litter boxes clean. Visitors are allowed to
remain only for short periods of time, thusly MODERATION is achieved.
They are all here, from the tiny Singapura to the huge Maine Coon.
Every breed of cat imaginable. Skookum peer out at passers-by from their
hiding places in discarded boots while Ragamuffin while away the hours
chasing anything smaller than them that has the audacity to enter into their
territory. At feeding time visitors are advised to wear ear plugs as the sound
of purring is deafening.
Proud Siamese preen themselves and show of their elegant diamond collars
while the furry Persian wants nothing more from life than to be groomed
all day by Ronnie. The rare Burmilla is very active and always looking
for the next toy to chase. But not all the cats here are exotic. Moggies and
feral cats of all descriptions can be found playing or stalking each other,
happy in the knowledge that all their needs are attended to by the
well trained humans.
{/rdesc}

{exits}[ Exits: south ]

...and it also throws a room number via GMCP our way. I setup mapper tags like

Code:
<class name="mapTagTrigs" enabled="false" id="835">
  <trigger name="roomNameMapTrig" priority="12880" id="836">
    <pattern>~{rname~}($roomName:*)</pattern>
    <value>#TAG name $roomName</value>
    <arglist>$roomName</arglist>
  </trigger>
  <trigger name="roomExitsMapTrig" priority="12970" id="838">
    <pattern>~{exits~}~[ Exits~: ($roomExits:*)%s~]</pattern>
    <value>#TAG exits $roomExits</value>
    <arglist>$roomExits</arglist>
  </trigger>
  <trigger name="roomDescMapTrig" priority="34270" id="3427">
    <pattern>~{rdesc~}($roomDesc:*)~{~/rdesc~}</pattern>
    <value>#TAG desc $roomDesc</value>
    <arglist>$roomDesc</arglist>
  </trigger>
  <trigger name="promptMapTrig" priority="34280" case="true" id="3428">
    <pattern>~[%d~/%dhp %d~/%dmn %d/%dmv *~] ~> </pattern>
    <value>#TAG prompt</value>
  </trigger>
</class>

As you can see, room desc may be multi-paragraph. I have used all manner of combination of enabled/disabled for these items but no matter how I fiddle with the mapper config I can never get all this to be recognised. Room description, if I enable that, ALWAYS has a trailing {/desc} in the text. If I even try to use these I regularly get a description but no name, name but no description or exits, name and desription, but no exits, most of the time only most of the name, and so on. Given such defined cases for name, description and exits, how is it impossible to configure mapper to work they way one expects?
