Wizards?
 
I am aware that there are plans to add a Trigger wizard to CMUD, any idea on when that will occur?

I cannot find any mention on the Command or Function wizards anywhere in regards to CMUD, I believe these are essential in assisting converts from zMud or new users in understanding the nuances of zscript(cscript?).

These wizards were essential for me in learning the proper syntax for commands and functions. In my opinion without wizards of the same or greater power than those already in zMUD the learning curve for most (including me) adapting or learning cscript will be far too steep.

This is BETA.
If you need wizards to do triggers, you should use the solid product aka zMud. No offence.
The commercial version of cMud has trigger wizard and more.

Thankyou for pointing that out BlackSmith Rolling Eyes I had obviously forgotten that because I neglected to read the forum title.

Perhaps you are correct though, clearly I am incapable of remembering the syntax, order of options and correct usage of the 300+ commands and functions which zMud has, in my defence I have only been using it 10 years. As CMUD has even more commands and functions than this I should not bother purchasing because of my own deficiencies, I wonder how many others fall into this category.

I am well aware that this is a 'BETA' but let me point out a couple of things to you and others that are inclined to roll out the mantra 'BETA' in respect to perceived critism of CMUD.

Zugg has indicated that he intends to notify all registered zMud users of the Beta by email in about one weeks time (Halloween) and to quote his own words

Zugg said that the newbie-friendly features will be implemented after the first public release. He didn't give an exact time-frame for it, but I am guessing around easter 2007 depending on the order that he works on things.

It's not the end of the world, however, since he is adding zApp forms we should be able to program our own wizards and store them in the package server for anyone to pull down. So although there may not be any "official" wizards, that's not to say there won't be any wizards at all.

Also, the documentation is the current focus of the beta, so hopefully the command/function reference will become a little easier soon :)

Actually it does, Ceres. Look under the Actions menu instead of the Help menu, or you could simply press CTRL-T. Don't feel bad, though, I didn't discover it until today, either.

Because both ZMud and the current incarnation of CMud are so feature-rich, it's generally a good idea to take time out to explore every nook and cranny every once in a while to keep up on things. For instance, did you happen to know that ZMud has the ability to run menu-based scripts like popular Wizard clients (ie, the Simutronics Wizard)? I also did not know this, but it's like an early precursor to CMud's package system (be aware that I didn't actually have anything to run, so it's probably the case that these file scripts are simply loaded into memory like importing and other ways to add to your current settings file).

Actually, the Command and Function "wizards" are already in CMUD. They were combined and renamed to "Reference" and are available in the fly-out reference panel. These really were not "wizards" in zMUD. But they still work mostly the same. The main way to use them is to press F1 in the command line or syntax editor when the cursor is over a command or function reference.

For example, type

#TRIGGER

and then press F1 on the command line and you should see the Reference window open to show the syntax of the #TRIGGER command.

Nice feature. I just tried, i can see myself using it alot. Especially if later it can be used in the editor based on say... the currently selected word.

It can already be used in the settings editor when writing a script (press F1 when the cursor is in the name of a command or function). But it cannot yet be used from the text-editor (Window/Editor).
