Vijilante,
I am sorry if you do not like how I have presented what I mean, but after having said it many times in many different ways, with many peoples input that pretty much were no help or at times nothing more than a "just do it this way and stfu" type of posts (at least thats the way that it felt to me) I kinda got tired of repetition and eventually i guess I DID start to get ticked off in my posts.
I agree, change IS a good thing. If it wasn't, we'd still be living in caves. And DAMN man, how the hell you type that quick!!
I too would like an easy transition into CMud, and for me that would mean having the same control over the default as I do in zmud.
And I love the idea of a 'personal default' package. It is certainly something that I would be willing to use. Of course it does not solve my dislike of having 2 entries for each keypad entry (One that says go north and another that says send the #8) in part because I find it would make it cluttered as well as having a double print in an export of my entire script file.
Again, sorry if my 10th repetition of my desire has started to disgust you. But since I've decided to stfu and wait until public version is out, and has been out for a while, feel free to lock this post, unless there is something else in here that you think someone might want to put in.
I hope that I can gain back a small mount of the respect that I hadn't even known i had from you *bow* |

it does solve it.
If you edit the defaults atconnect command to disable the keypad and diagonals on connect then they arent there anyways.
#T- keypad
#T- diagonals
Doesnt seem that bad to me. I am sure things will change though as cmud progresses. and even connecting to 876529834982345 muds a day only requires about 10 seconds to click edit session and then add "Personal Default" per session. So i think that is all that he was eluding to. It takes less time to add the package than to delete the default. This allows better customization for the options as well.
Maybe that mud you "Want" to try would work better with the defaults but since you deleted them you wouldnt have them.
I tend to agree with Vigilante here. While i really understand your wanting to remove certain defaults people present perfectly simple and not very time consuming solutions and it doesnt seem to matter you just find more fault with them etc. SO while i can see what you are driving at i get completely lost when you present it.
Printing out your scripts for the train ride makes perfect sense as i tend to do the same thing. The difference now is i just take CMUD with me on my laptop and edit them as i go rather than exporting them to paper and analyzing them there. Actually it works better for me as i dont have syntax editors or anything else when its on paper.
Overall i am not sure.. But i agree with zugg as well on the "Don't worry so much about implimentation as the "Task" you wish to perform"
Zugg = Implimentation
Players = Ideas for Tasks that require further implimentation
Hardcore Testers = Try to break everything so Zugg can fix it
Casual Players/Testers and New Users = Offer Feedback on ease of use and ability to grasp the concepts.
I think everyone plays a role in the overall well being of the product and its one of the things i have liked about zuggsoft for a while. Although i did express my own personal feelings in a few topics that were a "Rant" based on someones reaction to someone elses posts which upset me previously and i myself havent made a full blown commitment into evaluating CMUD. I have continued my hard testing of the product to try to break things with some of my more complex scripts. As i tend to write simple scripts and then make them faster and more complex later.
Although im running close to my 30 days on the laptop as well.
In the end I think the last thing i will say in this topic is Vitae while i think your ideas and expressing opinions about something is good i think the presentation of ideas "From anyone not just you" tends to determine the *character* of the post. And this one seems to me more of a "I have to have it the way im used to and want* post rather than an attempt to truly improve the product. I fall victim to that myself quite often. Testing over the last 15 years for different companies and in my own company has kind of taught me to be more open minded to new things and less stuck on the ways i am used to unless its for what i think to be the best of the product
Zugg: thank god. I was trying to figure out how to order scripts if you decided to impliment class priorities with my triggers lol. Thats good news as it will keep it from getting too complex i think where we have to code some very 'Overly' creative solutions ... :P Also known as coding kludges :P |

Note tho that if I can just go and do that then I can just go and delete them anway. You can't just "Edit the defaults atconnect command" because you have to access the default.mud (or .pkg) in which case, then I can just delete the keypad and diagonals and not need to add code to the atconnect for something that I'd just deleted.
And since Zugg said he's thinking about taking way the users ability to access the default file then the way to do that is to ADD another atconnect command that does it then yeap, that can be done. So there will be 2 atconnects. I know, that's not a big deal, I just don't like having multiple entries. It looks sloppy and leads to more chances of errors.
EDIT: added the below way after my initial post because I thought I might as well :-)

Umm...are you sure about your math there? 10 seconds each time you add the package is not better than you already have defults set as you want it on your one.
Pretend I connect to 60 muds a day. Every time i connect I take the 10minutes to attach my prefered settings for the default.pkg. I've now taken 6 minutes out of the mudding day. ZOMG! 6 minutes!?! Yeah, not a significant amount of time at all.
But, i've got an edited default.pkg that took me 20 seconds to edit and i NEVER have to wrory about it again until i upgrade.
So, which is better 6mins a day for lets say 30 days (90 mins a month) before the upgrade or 20 seconds in 30 days?
Juts wanted to point out a flaw in your thought.

? wait, you've actually FOUND a use for the default package? All i've ever seen in there are the diagonals, the cardinal directions, the pueblo folder and the at* stuff. never seen anything in there that would improve a mud and make me wish i had a setting..

Yeah, I agree, sucks that on the print out I can't be sure that what I'm doing is valid or what not. I've spent more time editing my edits than I'd like. But as a married man with a child that starts kindergarten and will be needing a babysitter to take care of her after school, and in a job that frankly does not pay as well as i'd like, I have no way of getting a laptop. much less the ones that i'd prolly need to run cmud with the prices these vultures want for them. So, if ya have a laptop that you no longer need and is good then feel free to send it my poor ass way. |

OK, THATS IT! I've had it with these threads.
Vitae: You need to go read the "Default Settings" topic that Rainchild created where this issue is discussed more productively. This particular thread has lost all usefullness and has simply become a flame war.
I do not tolerate flame wars on this site.
Vitea, you have expressed the SAME rants over and over again. You don't need to keep repeating yourself. We get it. All you are doing is annoying other people and causing them to continue the thread. If you have issues with edb's posts, then take it to the Private Messages.
You should stop using the CMUD *BETA* and come back when the Public Release is announced and these problems are fixed.
Locking this thread now. |
