Zmud in non-admin XP account?

Hi,

I've been trying to get Zmud working through an internet dedicated user account on XP. It installs ok in the master account (which has admin access) but gives a mysql no access error when used on the other account. I've tried telling the Zmud folder in Programme Files to allow acesss, but to no avail. Can anyone offer any help? Thanks.

Install it into C:\ZMUD instead.

What sort of account is the internet dedicated user account? Is it an XP guest account? Is it an XP normal account that you tied down a bit more?

It's a limited account, guest accounts are turned off.

There are 3 types of accounts in XP. Admin accounts, limited user accounts, and guest accounts. Admin accounts have full access to everything. Limited user accountsare not allowed to modify programs and can not even run most programs. I don't know about guest accounts, all mine are turned off.

I can tell you that the access violation your getting has nothing to do with your account type, I have an admin account in XP Pro and I'm getting the same violation. Good luck asking what it is on here though, I posted a question about it a couple weeks ago and never got _any_ kind of an answer.

Well in order to see if that is the case Goldalene do you get the same error while running zMUD in your admin account?

Also, make sure you are using the latest 7.21 version downloaded from this web site. The access violation that you mentioned sounds like one of the errors from the previous 7.20 and earlier versions.

When you install zMUD, you *must* install it using an Admin account, and then you *must* run it the first time using the Admin account. This is the only way to set up the copy protection system properly. Once you have run it from an Admin account the first time, then you should be able to run it from a normal user account.

The only reported problem with a normal user account is that by default, normal user accounts are restricted from writing to the Program Files folder, so when zMUD tries to save it's INI file, the *.DB SQL databases, and your *.MUD settings files, it will fail. That is why Taz said you might need to install it into a top-level directory like C:/zMUD. However, some sys admins might have also restricted writing to top-level directories as well.

When you run zMUD for the first time using the Admin account, that should create the SQL databases within the zMUD directory. Once these are created, then a normal user should be able to run zMUD and read these databases even if they don't have write access. It's only when they try to save their settings or when the program saves the INI file on exit that you might run into write permission issues.

I have a standard Windows XP Home system set up here with an Admin and normal User account, and zMUD works fine from the normal user account with zMUD installed into C:/zMUD. So if it still doesn't work, you'll need to look at what other restrictions you have set for your user accounts.

Thanks, I'll try what you've suggested.

I can confirm: it's version 7.21
