[1.03] Settings File Weirdness |
This may already be on your to-do list, however I wanted to start a fresh package for my settings to make sure nothing untoward was coming, so I exited from CMUD, deleted my MudName.PKG file, then went back in and connected to my MUD.
This created a new package 'untitled.pkg' and my settings were probably saved to that, but didn't load again next time I went in (just created a new untitled.pkg)...
Probably we need it to auto-create the MudName.pkg if it does not exist. |

I agree with this. It's really confusing having the untitled.pkg. I end up copying the pkg file to a directory I created every time I add a new MUD. I would like to have a setting where it creates sessions into a directory with the same name as the session.

Agreed. I've been playing with brand new sessions and it is not easy to figure out what is going on and what you have to do.

Creating a .pkg file using the mud's name the first time you open a session would probably be best. Either that or have cmud promt the user to save the package. To go a step further might even want to have cmud apon creating the new package to associate the package with that mud as zmud does with creating new .mud files.

Yep, that is the way it will eventually work (when you open a session that is). The untitled.pkg is meant more for the blank window if you just close the character selection without choosing a session.
The idea is that untitled.pkg is sort of a sand-box work area. You can use it to create a package, but need to remember to go into the package editor and use the File/SaveAs to save it to a different filename, or you need to rename the untitled.pkg after CMUD exits to something else. CMUD *does* make a backup of the untitled.pkg before it overwrites it when you start CMUD.
I'm actually surprised it's not creating a blank settings file with the correct name from the session. In the File tab for the session, is the settings filename set? |

I just tested this. I created a new session and tried both test and text.pkg as the filename and opened offline. In both cases the settings editor it is still opening with the untitled package. I also checked the cmud directory and it does not appear to be creating a blank settings file at all.

I have confirmed this as well. There is no "Save As" option in the File menu. The only relevant ones I see are "Save" and "Copy Package To".
I just created a new package, but cMUD is not loading it. It is loading untitled.pkg instead. |

Agreed I spent a lot of time trying to figure this issue last night as well..
package editor and use the File/SaveAs <--- Doesnt exist.
When i open your precreated files no problem works like a charm.
Also when creating a new package (I wanted one with no settings in it whatsoever.) When i untick "Enable Automatic guages and statbar" in MXP Settings and file save etc. It doesnt save the settings. I come in and boom its back. When i use your packages it works fine. I have a feeling this is a procedural mistake on my part as i am sure you created the other ones. I am sure its a process order that im going in is different than your own. |

Yep, sounds like a bug not creating the packages.
Oh, and I made a mistake in the post...it's not File/SaveAs, it's the File/Copy Package To that saves the package to a different filename. I should probably change this to use the more standard "Save As" name. |

This doesn't have anything to do with packages, but it is something with prefrences. While I was setting my prefrences, I noticed there were a lot of places where the text was sort of squished and difficult to read, though not impossible.
Tried resizing my prefs window, but it had no effect, the text remained somewhat squished. It's more of a cosmetic thing then anything, but thought I'd mention it.
My screen resolution is 1280x1024 don't know if that would have anything to to with it or not, but thought I'd throw that in there. |

jenca1872, you should create separate forum topics for different issues like this. It probably has to do with the DPI setting of your video settings, so post to a new thread and try to include a screenshot or send a screenshot via the Send Feedback option in CMUD.
