I run zmud at home to run a bot, and i'm stuck using powwow under unix from work remotely, how about allowing us to login to zmud so we can reconfigure remotely?

RDP. Remote Desktop Protocol. It's built into Windows XP (at least the Professional version), and is available as a service under other versions of Windows, sometimes called Terminal Server. There are RDP clients available for Linux, too. If you can access your PC through RDP, you can do almost anything you like on it. If there is a firewall or some other restriction to prevent you from doing this, you may be out of luck even if it were something built directly into zMUD.

I personally use Real VNC to do my remote desktopping, but yeah there's plenty of 3rd party ways to get in without needing it built into CMUD.

unix doesnt have the same base of RDP clients as windows. Although there are some.

There are many builds of VNC, I believe the one currently developed by the original man behind it is RealVNC and that it runs on most flavours of *nix.

With RDP/Terminal Server it is possible to serve a webpage as the client hence removing any barrier as regards to not being able to install software or firewall restrictions.

I can SSH and that's about it.

Right now i'm using putty rerouted to port 110 to get around a nasty firewall.

Stuck with Powwow because the newest Tintin won't compile on my FreeBSD box.

Would I pay for a solid & supported unix mud client? Hell yes.

Is there one? Unfortunately no.

Well, there might be a way to piggy-back over the Zugg Chat protocol, because you can remote control using that... however, that would require coding a standalone unix version of the ZuggChat client. I've never used it personally, but it never hurts to experiment.

I thought regular zMUD had some issue running under Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, doesn't it complain about not being licensed? Or was that a bug rather than a feature?

That was a side effect of the eLicense control, which has been removed from the current version.

I use Hamachi(which is free) to create a private virtual network between my Windows machine, Windows laptop, and Linux server. I can then use RealVNC, over my Hamachi IP's, to control any of my computers. Another advantage for it is that I keep Hamachi and RealVNC on my usb key, and can install it anywhere I go to create a secure link and access all my computers as if I were at home. It works great!
