#FILE without #CLOSE causes Zmud.exe process hang? |
I know I should be using #CLOSE to close open files...
but if for some reason a file is left open when zMud is quit/closed the Zmud.exe process seems to become zombified, and then you can't restart zMud without killing the zombie (via Windows Task-Manager).
Anyone else encountered this problem?
Perhaps zMud could check and close all open files as it closes down?

I have seen the same thing happen and I don't use #FILE. I haven't quite figured out what causes this but it actually appears to be an old bug. I first saw it with the 7.13b version and it has occurred with each subsequent version. I have never been able to find a persistent method causing it to happen, so I just live with it. Anyhow why would you want to close zMud?

Sometimes you simply have no choice. Scripts don't act the way you expect them to, you forget about or discover bugs that crash it to the desktop or simply lock it up, etc. I've also found that sometimes ZMud or a module within will get terrorized by the screensaver/powersaver features and that you can get rid of glitches in various modules just by shutting down ZMud and restarting it (this especially works for the mapper). |

I was trying to make a joke, but your reply was much more amusing. Kudos.

hmm, you're right... #FILE doesn't appear to be the cause of the problem. i'll have to have a closer look next time it happens!
