Quickest System Possible

I'm wanting to create a system built for speed and would like to know the best way to go about this.
As of now, I"m using a method that works like this:
#tr {<affliction message>} {#var <affliction> 1;afflictioncheck}
#al afflictioncheck {#if (@affliction1 = 1 and @balances = 1) {cure_affliction}
First off, is this prudent? I've got a variable for each affliction and an alias for each type of cure. My system's not been the quickest, among other things. Any suggestions as to what I could change to speed things up as much as possible?

P.S. This is for the IRE game, Aetolia, for any that may help. Curing runs on a balance system. i.e. herbs, elixirs, salves can only be used once every few seconds. Between these times, any effort to cure would be futile.

Several people have already asked for this type of system, you'd probably find faster results if you used the search feature.
