really old zMuds |
Anyone happen to have any of the 1.x versions laying around collecting dust anywhere?
Haven't been able to find em out there on the net. So far I've found:
2.0, 2.91(10am), 2.91(1pm)
3.6, 3.62-16, 3.62-32
4.13-32, 4.22-32, 4.56-32, 4.62-16, 4.62-32
5.22, 5.22a
5.31, 5.44, 5.48, 5.55, 5.55x
6.15, 6.16, 6.62
7.01, 7.04, 7.05, 7.05a, 7.10, 7.11a and of course 7.12
Went to sleep and missed 7.11 :p
Anyhoo, just looking for "history" sake of it.
If anyone has any of the 1.x's, I'd LOVE to get a copy.
(Any of the others would be cool too :P) |

I think I have a couple 1.x versions on a 20M HD somewhere around here.
v1.13 I think is what I started using back in '95. |

Wow, if someone still has a copy of 1.x somewhere, I'd love to get a copy! I also want to put together a historical page for zMUD and I don't even have 1.x around anywhere that I can find.
Also, Private, could you send me some of the links you have collected via email? I don't want to make old versions generally available for more users since they contain a lot of bugs and would cause support headaches, but I'd love to download some of the old versions for a history page also. |

I've got like fifteen projects all going at once, and I'm not even sure I could hook up the drive to this computer. One of these days, I'll try to get it hooked up and see what I have. Right now, I'm pretty busy with other things.

Castaway, you really had me excited for a minute there. I thought you really had a v1.6 version (although I don't think there were any "sub" versions between 1.0 and 2.0).
But the ZMUD16f.zip file is actually the free v3.62 16-bit version (the 16f means 16-bit free).
If anyone is able to find a version 1.0 zMUD somewhere out there, I'm willing to give free reg codes for zMUD/zMapper/zApp/eMobius for it. It is a *very* rare file since it was only distributed to certain members of the Smoke Jaguar clan on the Dark Castle MUD back in 1995. |

I might have started a crazy hunt for zMUD 1.0 by happening to mention your post in Dark Castle MUD, Zugg . Seems some still remember your old clan. Maybe you should login there yourself? I got the feeling that some of the clan members still play so it might be possible to contact them.
Edit: Off topic: Castaway is that German translation made by you? If so is there any chance you'll release it? |

Bad news. I pulled out my old WIN3.1 machine and started swapping drives in and out, looking for a directory I used to have named something like "OldZmudVersions." I found three master HDs, the original WIN3.1, WIN95, and finally WIN98. The last (and fourth) one I tried was jumpered as a slave and I tried to hook it up with the 98 master and a high-pitched squeal came out of the speaker - I may have reversed the controller cable, but I was very careful to check for pin1! - It seemed backwards after I immediately turned it off and yanked the power and controller ribbon though. The old slave is definitely toast now.
I never found the folder/directory I know I had. I think when I switched to WIN95, I archived? the old versions and maybe they are still hidden somewhere, but I couldn't find them on the three bootable drives.
I have an ancient tape backup, and about eight tapes of which two have data on them. I don't know which two. The tape backup system was quickly replaced by ZIP drives and for good reason - the tape backup took what seemed like days to backup a 20M HD. If Private or anyone else wants the drive and the tapes - which should have my oldest version of zMUD on it, but no guarantees! - he/she should pm me. I don't have the software that came with the tape drive either so this is at best, a speculative proposition.
Finally as to Zugg's last post, I NEVER played on Dark Castle MUD. I believe I first downloaded zMUD in late 95/early 96 and it was just shy of 800K d/l. |

Oh, damn.. I'd forgotten it was the 16bit version, sorry! I haven't any older than that, sadly.. It seems odd to me that v1.0 isnt on some internet archive somewheres..
Rorso: Yup, it is, sure, where to? I'm afraid the last status of it was for some 6.6X version, and it wasn't complete then.. Can/should I upload it here somewhere? Actually it's also linked on my zMUD pages.. http://desert-island.dynodns.net/zmud/

*looks slightly jeallous at Castaway* I can do even better
This website has versions from 2.0 to 5.55: ***censored*** (sorry I noticed it also contained cracks)
Edit: One of the odd things with this client searching is that I have found lots of cracks for zMUD :(. Guess for reasons these sites might be the few who store this old versions. |

I don't think that's zMUD 1.0. I think it's the first Italian translation of zMUD (thus, the 1.0 translation). It would have been impossible to translate the original 1.0 version.
