Access vilations with 7.13 :( |
Seems this was a huge problem with 7.12, and, oddly enough, one I didn't have.
But, with the update, I seem to have run into it.
I can't get past the zMUD status: initializing screen without getting an error telling me basically that it won't work.
I've tried finding threads with comments on how to fix this problem, but it seems that they all had their problems work out over night.. I, on the other hand, have not had that pleasure.
I tried installing zMUD into a different directory altogether, but that didn't help at all. It just used the old database which seems to be the problem to begin with.
This is rather disheartening, any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks. |

1) What version of Windows?
2) Are you using any plugins?
3) Have you tried uninstalling 7.12 and then installing 7.13?
4) Try deleting the mudlist.db and chardb.db files to let zMUD re-convert them. Does zMUD perform the conversion, or crash before the conversion? |

Just as a sidenote, don't reply to this, carry on the conversation, sorry for being slightly offtopic:
I just thought I'd say I am using Windows XP Professional SP2, I had several windows pop up telling me I had an access violation with 7.12 every time I opened a character but in 7.13 I have had none of that, so thank you Zugg.
Most companies that release a patch for a program which then causes errors tend to take ages to make a better patch, this is definitely a good exception to the rule!! |

1) Windows XP Home
2) I have no idea what a zMUD plugin is, so probably not
3) I just uninstalled 7.13 and installed it again, and the same violation popped up
4) After deleting the db's, zMUD crashed -after- the conversion |

OK, now try just deleting the chardb.db file (don't delete the MUD file).
Also:
1) What is the exact error message?
2) What is displayed in the initialization section of the splash screen when you get the error.
Also, are you on AIM or ICQ? If so, email me your chat handle so I can have you try a debug version. |

Apparently all I needed was to restart. After doing that, I tried to get the error message and zMUD started right up. If anything screws up in the near future, I'll be sure to drop by again!
Sorry 'bout that.. it seems so simple, now.
Thank you so much! |

OK, thanks for the information on this. I'll keep an eye on the forums to see if other users have this problem. It's possible that Windows is getting screwed up by the DLL registration process or something like that. Or, something might have just been messed up on your computer. We all know how "stable" Windows can be sometimes ;)
