I open zMUD now that my lisence works, and it brings up the first box thing, but then the program itself doesn't open. What's going on??

Which box thing are you referring to? Is it the reddish-colored splash screen with the Zuggsoft logo (and I think yellow text on the bottom edge that tells you what's happening--loading plugins, character database, etc)? If so, where does it stop at? Where it stops can often tell us what the problem is and from there we can walk you through how to fix it.

yes, it's the splash screen. It will say initializing, then briefly say Name: Elicen40 and Status: Registering, then just go off of the screen without opening the program.

Make sure that the the Zmud was installed and ran for the first time with an administrator account, also check to make sure the lic-ctrl service is running start->run "services.msc" (on win 2k/XP)

If that is running make sure to update your MDAC 2.8/Jet 4.0 files from microsoft

ok, I did the services.msc thing a long time ago and that didn't fix the problem. I tried the MDAC 2.8 and it said that it wasn't compatible, and when I did the Jet 4.0 thing it said that I have a more recent version on my computer. I tried running zMUD again after doing this, and I still have the same problem.

Sounds like you somehow got the ELICEN40.DLL added to zMUD as a plugin. The splash screen should never be showing Elicen40 in the Name field for initializing, and I'm not sure how you possible got it into that state. Try installing zMUD into a completely different directory on your computer to see if that helps.
