zMUD lite platform ? (i.e. no admin privs) |
Is there a way to have zMUD on a computer if you don't have admin privileges? Like a zMUD lite version with only the parsing/scripting features and no communications protocols (or whatever - does that make sense? Obviously I'm not IT inclined). I'd like to mess around with scripting during my off time at work, and there's no way my IT Dept would approve a full load of zMUD on the work computer.
No biggie, just curious. I can always just bring my laptop to work. But, I was thinking that for those w/o, it'd be nice to have a Lite version available for use on comps they don't have the privs for. |

I am not intirely sure but you could try to install the Zmud folder onto a diskand try that to run the program.
You might still have to put the license on the computer your using wich the IT might not like.
You could do what I do, Don't use Zmud.
I write my scripts free hand on paper then do the rest when I get home.
Zugg did a lot of foot work to make it as simple as possible and a lot of work can be done just by asking simple question and answering. |

Yeah, I just normally bust out Notepad and type it out. But, not being of sound mind on the intricacies of the script I was thinking it'd be nice to actually see if what I'm typing up works. Oh, well. Like I said, a means of just being able to use the script offline w/o admin access would be nice, but it's not a necessity by any stretch. zMUD is still great, and it's definitely one of my all-time favorite purchases!

Why copy the zmud.hlp file when the entire reference is available online here?
I think what he means is that he wants to run it passed zmud's engine for the script offline and check if it actually works (checking for typos, missing clauses etc.) |

I was thinking if it is a possibility to have the parser as a stand alone entity that it would make a nice product. Right now, for the typical zMUDder to see if their shiny, brand-new super-script of coolness actually works they have to load up the entire zMUD program when all they need is the parser (heck, I'm not even sure I'm using the right terminology). So, that's what I'm calling a zMUD lite version; the parser only with no other features.
It may not be a necessity, and I don't know if it's feasable. I just thought of it as previously mentioned, while at work w/o zMUD access. |
