Saving zones

I am wondering if it's possible to save zones from your maps. I have a bunch of .map files from a friend that I can import from, but I have no idea how to make them.
My first guess was to open the mapper, select the zone, and then do either file save as, or zone export, but file save as lets me just save the entire map database and zone export doesn't exist. |
