zdmud 7.05 trial stopped working with 13 days left

I had been using Zmud and started to run into problems. It started highligting all the screen text in black. To try to stop this I somehow made the mud game window blank. Then half the screen came up. I closed the window.

Since then I cannot get into zmud. I hit trial period and it goes through its loading modules. I see on the screen:

loading zmud modules 0
characters
initializing

The music plays. Then the screen, and the icon near start, both vanish. I reinstalled and that didn't help. I read the faq and found that my licctrl was already set ok. I can't find anything in the faq that seems to relate to this. I don't know what the hell i've done but i seem to have wrecked it. Note that the above is all i see: there is no error message of any type.

As a builder who needs the mapper this is a disaster for me. And I don't see how buying it, which i will do by post because i live outside the us and don't trust internet shopping, is going to change it.

And I have read the faq. Thoroughly. If it's something i missed please tell me.

It is unlikely to be an eLicense issue if you get the zMUD splash screen to show. When you reinstalled I guess you didn't remove the old files?

You could try this (make backup first):
1. Delete zmud.ini
2. Start zMUD.

The Characters is initialized after sound. I believe that refers to the "chardb.mdb". Start by renaming this file. If the error persists then you likely have a damaged MDAC/JET installation. Try checking Windows Update and search the forums for MDAC. The zuggsoft page on updating it has been linked so many times I can't be bothered to relink, and another user found a solution for badly damaged installations that the installer refused to fix on its own. Once you successfully update and can run zMud you should be able to do a little renaming to restore your old chardb.mdb to that name.
