Creating maps from triggers |
I am trying to map a maze where none of the exits are standard...
I can use a trigger to get the unique name of the room I'm in, as well as the exits.
So, is there a command I can use which lets me create a new room with a custom exit back to the room I'm in... for example.
I'm on cloud14, the exits are "jump cloud3", "jump cloud7" and "jump cloud12". Each of those clouds will have a "jump cloud14" to get back to where I am...
I'm not too concerned about how the map looks, as long as the links are correct. I would need to be able to mark each new room as unvisited until I enter it so I know which other clouds I could jump to, which I should be able to do with room notes easily enough. I've read through the helpfiles and am unable to work out which commands I should be using to do this... |

In the help files somewhere (I forget where) it shows a way to set up using custom exits. Basically, standing in one room, you would type on the command line something like:
>jump cloud3>e
This will create a room directly east of the room you are in with a command in the link of 'jump cloud3'. So whenever you cross the link using the keypad, the mapper will automatically send a 'jump cloud3' instead of an 'east'.
However, make sure that once you create a link like this, you straightaway create the reverse link with a '>jump cloud14>w' , else you might have problems sorting out rooms later on as zmud creates the return link as an 'other' type. Also, don't move the room on the mapper until you have set the return link, else the mapper will create a new room when you try to set the return link. Once you have both links set with the right command, you can happily move the room around on the mapper.
This exit command can also be created, or editted, from the room properties screen.
Select the 'exits' tab and make sure you have the right link selected, then on your right you will see a box labelled 'Other cmd'. This is where you put any non-standard command to cross the link. (Standard commands being n,w,ne,nw,up,down, etc) You can also put multiple commands on here, but atm unless you have zmapper as well, and do it in zmapper, you might have problems when crossing the link, with the mapper losing track of the dot.
