settings corruption button modification |
I had a multi-state button on which I was trying to reduce the number of states from 9 to 8 - I don't know if I was going about it the right way. I decreased the number of states and deleted it from the states tab. As soon as I saved, I knew something was wrong. Zmud started to freeze, but eventually it returned to normal and the settings dialog closed. Clicking the multi-state button revealed a long list of the name of the button that took up the height of my screen. Opening the settings dialog to try and fix this, Zmud semi-froze. When it came back, the button now had 100 states - although nothing looked unusual in the states tab. Closed it, it was freezy again, and the same problem with the button. Opened the settings to check again, Zmud freezes completely and must be hit with Ctrl-Alt-Del.
Now, the settings are corrupt - there seems to be a huge length of 0's where the caption of one of the states should be. By huge I mean several pages worth. The .bak file is also affected.
Now - my question. I've found the exact button in one of my older settings file, from what I believe was saved by 5.5. I have tried substituting that line of code in with the corrupted file, but it doesn't work. I really don't understand what's going on here - is it possible for someone to help me perhaps where the code for the button "begins", or if it can be a simple solution by cutting and pasting? The syntax, or whatever it is, seems to differ between the two settings files, Trying to import things back in is met with a corrupted settings warning, and Zmud seems to overwrite the said settings file with some generic settings.
I regret not having a more recent backup. Is there any way I might be able to save any of my settings? I didn't post the snippets of these files because they're quite lengthy.
I believe the old .mud file was made by Zmud 5.5, and I'm currently using 7.05. Thank you in advance for your assistance. |

Wouldn't have posted if the FAQ solved my problem.
I'll be just as glad to get that particular snippet of code out of the file, but again - I have no idea where to clip it. |

IF you know that it is a button giving you problems then don't import the buttons Failing that you can email me your settings file *addy in profile* and If I am able to fix it I shuold be able to get it back to you in about 8ish hours or so.

If you know what the button is supposed to look like and what it's supposed to do, use the Settings Editor to remake it. I find the #BUTTON command confusing and unreliable and make/edit all my buttons in the Settings Editor.

Honestly, I could care less about the button. It's rather easy to recreate... it's everything else that I want to salvage. If I could cut out all the junk completely, that would still be great.
