Just a quickie about 7.05 and Windows XP Themes |
In a post somewhere here, i saw zugg say that 7.05 uses a lot of resources because of the Windows XP Themes support.
Is that something that is able to be turned off and thus save resources?
I turned off all that poofy crap in XP itself cause I think it looks like crap.
The computer at work is pretty crappy and slow, and to much resources being used will make it go bonkers. (I think this is a p2 lower end model)
Thanks. |

For me, zMUD goes back to the classic theme when I change Windows to the Classic theme...

What uses extra resources is that all of the icons in zMUD are now 256 color instead of 16 color. This takes up more resource space, and no, there is no way to go back. There was no way to have the buttons select which kind of icon to use (and even if there was, it would still have to store both types, which would still take up more resources). The only way to fix this would be to create a separate zMUD image for older versions of Windows that only had 16 color icons, and I decided not to do that.
So, if your are running out of resources, either don't run any other applications at the same time as zMUD, or upgrade to Windows XP. Sorry, but it's getting harder and harder to support older versions of Windows, and you'll have to upgrade someday eventually.
If you are already running Windows XP, the resource usage of zMUD doesn't matter at all since Windows XP lets you use all of memory for resources instead of just 128 kbytes like in Windows 98. When running on Windows XP there is an option in the zMUD Preferences called "Use theme support" that you can turn off to disable the WinXP theme support.
So, it doesn't matter what kind of processor or computer you are running...it matters what version of Windows you are running. |
