Directions blues

Greetings,

After discovering that one of thepredefined directions,
i.e. "k" for southwest, interfered with an existing alias
"k" for "kill", I changed the sw direction from "g" to
"k" in the default.mud file (and changed the ne direction's
reverse).

Alas, now the speedwalking sends a "g" command when it tries
to move southwest, instead of translating it to the real
direction (southwest).

It seems the automapper has 'seen' the new direction all right,
but somewhere it goes wrong.

Where? Can you enlighten me?

Make a backup of default.mud, then delete it. Reinstall zMUD. This should restore you to the standard default.mud.

It's best not to alter system files, such as default.mud, unless you are sure of what you're doing. If you don't like the default directions, disable the class (#T- System|DirectionDiag} and make new directions in your own setting file. This will make it easier to experiment without breaking anything permanently.

I can't see anything difficult in either the settings editor Directions dialog or the #DIR command. Assuming you didn't change the northeast direction, the appropriate commands would be:
#DIR gl sw|southwest sw
#DIR lg ne|northeast ne
In the settings editor they would appear as:
Direction: g
Reverse: l
Commands: sw|southwest
Map: Southwest

Direction: l
Reverse: g
Commands ne|northeast
Map: Northeast

Directions are only used in speedwalks and there's really no reason you should need to use a 'k' alias during a speedwalk. If you want a kill command in the middle of your speedwalk, type out the word 'kill' instead of using your alias.
