need help with editing files in character mode

ok here is a brain teaser.
using Zmud I can logon to my SSH port on my shell, and I can open files. However when I try to scroll down the file using the arrow keys in character mode, all I get is a beep tone.
any suggestions? |

Apparently, whatever characters are sent by the arrow keys aren't the ones you need to send. Find out what characters you need to send to obtain the desired behavior, then make macros for the arrow keys.
