Mud output is gone

I have had a little bit of trouble with the the newest beta recently so i decided to try and revert back to my old version of zmud.

first of all i really had no idea of how to do that and i think somewhere along the line i messed up and re-wrote over my backup files but that's not my issue... since then i've done all sorts of things like uninstalled the beta, and rolled it back to previous version and stuff.

now i finally tried to just simply install (or re-install i'm not sure what was on my computer at the time) version 6.62 and i can't get the main window to display any mud output. the only way i can get it to start displaying output is by going under "Settings - New..." then it asks me if i'm sure i want to purge the settings (since i had just re-installed and lost all my previous settings anyways i click ok) and it starts to display the mud properly.

but i have to do this everytime i open the mud, and therefor, everytime i open the mud i loose all my settings because i need to purge them. i know i'm connecting properly because i saved a log after i tried opening the mud and it showed me the normal log in display stuff in the text log.

that's the best i can try to explain my problem and all the circumstances surrounding it, and if anyone knows what might be wrong with my settings then'd i'd appreciate some help.

Yeah sounds like fun stuff, My advise since your already at the begining is to
Unistall all Zmud on your computer
Reboot
Then reinstall the reliable working Zmud 6.62
If you still have problems then something worse has happend and I doubt it has anything to do with Zmud.

Thanks for the suggestion light bulb but i have the black screen where everything should be showing up, but nothing does still. and that "Mud output" only toggles wether or not the black screen is there (it was already on by the way)

And i think i'm going to try to just delete every single remaining portion of zmud on my computer and then re-install from scratch one last time. and if that doesn't work i'll just use my other computers working version all the time.

Okay, the next step would be to check your display preferences. Open the character with the Offline button and go to Prefs|Colors|(Color Schemes), make sure you don't have something like black-on-black selected. Under Foreground Mapping and Background Mapping make sure you have normal palettes.
0 - Black
1 - Blue
2 - Green
3 - Cyan
4 - Red
5 - Magenta
6 - Brown
7 - Light Grey
8 - Dark Grey
9 - Bright Blue
10 - Bright Green
11 - Bright Cyan
12 - Bright Red
13 - Bright Magenta
14 - Yellow
15 - White

Next, I'd recommend checking the settings you start with. Close the Preferences window, then open the Settings Editor by clicking the Triggers button. On the editor's View menu select Show Hidden, Show Inherited, and All Classes. This should show you every trigger you have. Check all of them for #GAG, #WINDOW, :window:, #CAPTURE, #MAKEWINDOW, or similar commands which redirect or hide input. Click the Aliases button and check the event-driven aliases: atconnect, atdisconnect, atexit, onroomcreate, onroomenter, onwalkend.

If you still haven't found anything, go back to Preferences and check the General|Emulation settings. Start with the default settings, ANSI Color, VT102, MCP, and Emulate Control Codes on the left and everything on the right with zmud as the Default Telnet Terminal Type. If that doesn't work, try disabling MCP on the left and all the options on the right, one at a time. When (if) you find a combination that works, the last thing you changed is probably the cause.

This isn't necessarily every possibility, but it's as exhaustive a list as I could think of. The idea here is to go through everything in the setting file that could have any possible bearing on display, one at a time, and try to find the cause. In particular, go through every section of Preferences and double-check anything that isn't a default preference (use Help to verify the defaults). Also, compare what you have at startup (which doesn't work) to what you have after using Settings|New (which does). Something changes which makes the difference and you can find it if you search hard enough.
