[6.62] Major Display Problems

I'm having some major display problems with the 6.62 version of zMud.

The main window works okay, but every other sub-window, and the main bar on the top of the screen, is quartered, with only the upper left quadrant showing (or just the left side of the main bar).

The display is just gone from the other sectors. The buttons on the missin quarters are unavailable, and the resize arrow doesn't show up (so I know it's not that the screens are just smaller). Also, when I move the window (by picking up the window with the part of the title bar that shows), there's an outline that shows the window's full (original) size.

Needless to say, this is a very annoying and serious bug.

My system:
Windows XP sp1, P4 2.66 ghz, 512 MB memory.
Nvida Geforce 4 Ti4400 (128 MB), 45.23 WHQL drivers

This problem is recent, and it was working properly before. My guess is that it may be related to the new drivers, but since these drivers work best with my other apps, uninstalling them is not really a solution. I have also installed other programs such as Firebird (default browser) and Trillian (beta 2.0), and I'm unsure if that could also be a factor.

Sounds like your docking layout is all messed up or your layout file is corrupted. Click the Edit button for your character and go to the Files tab and turn off the Use Layout option to load your windows without using the *.LAY file. Then dock the windows how you want them and resave your layout.

Zugg,

Not using the layout didn't work. I unchecked the box and even deleted the .lay file. I also used different mud profiles (including the sample), and all auxiliary windows still show up quartered (or thereabouts).

The main window is fine. All the other windows are shot. It really makes zMud unusable.

Also, I noticed this after I'd installed zExplorer. But, I also hadn't used zMud recently before, so I don't know if the problem existed pre or post the installation of zExplorer.

It shouldn't have anything at all to do with zExplorer...zExplorer and zMUD are completely separate programs. I guess without a screen shot to show exactly what you are talking about there isn't much else I can suggest, since I'm not really sure what you mean by "show up quartered".

Oh, I just saw you mention something about new drivers. Video driver problems could certainly cause this. To prove whether or not the problem is with the video driver, right-click on My Computer and go to Properties. Then select Performance and go to Video Performance. Move the slider for video accelleration all the way to the left. Then click OK and reboot Windows. This disables video accelleration which is what causes most bugs in drivers. If this fixes zMUD, then the problem is with the video driver and you'll need to get an update for them. Different programs use drivers in different ways and just because drivers work for one program doesn't mean they don't have bugs that other programs are sensitive too. If the problem with zMUD is still present, then it's not a driver problem and you can restore the accelleration setting and reboot again to turn on the video accelleration again.
