In Need of Proof |
Hey folks, my first ever post here. :)
My question? --Or should I say statement here is that I use zmud version 5.48(yeah, I likely should upgrade, but I've always been comfortable with this version) and I happen to MUD on a game that has a policy that is against AFK scripting. In any event, the long and short of my story is that, just two days ago(at the time of this post) I was doing some skill practicing in an area. Some files I had finished downloading via Edonkey2000 completed(some anime avi's) and I decided to sample a couple. In any event, my comp had been(still is too, actualy) on for the past four days, and was running a tad bit slow. I opened up one of the anime's, and I find myself completely freezing up- windows media player, aol instant messanger, and zmud. I tried to find some solution to my hanging up computer without having to hopefully restart it simply due to the fact that I had some other downloads seriously cranking...and if any of you happen to use edonkey, hopefully you'll understand how important it is not to switch your IP in the midst of a connection.
Anyway, my best efforts to keep my dragging computer from hanging up are in vain, and I'm forced to restart. When I log back on(and reopen zmud) I find myself in the AFK Scripting jail on the MUD I play on, and as things currently stand I need a proof two the two head administrators of the game that it is possible for zmud triggers to still go off when a system of freezing up. Unless of course, I'm wrong, and some inane voodoo simply occured on my machine, and my machine alone(thus making this instance false)...but I'll swear on the sky above that the damned thing was unusable for me, while I was informed in-game that my character was still inputting commands. The greater the proof one could produce, the better.
Thanking you greatly in advance. I appreciate taking a gander at this, thank you. |

Assuming your computer didn't actually hang, then yes it's possible for an application (such as ZMud) to continue execution. Using %90 of your memory is almost the same thing as a complete freeze-up, but your computer DOESN'T ACTUALLY FREEZE UP. Instead, it just locks out user input until other things get resolved.

Corrupt movies will cause Media Player to lock up like that. You have to restart. And yes, it does only seem to lock up the desktop sometimes, leaving other apps running in the background.

Indeed I have had similar issues myself.
For all intensive purposes the desktop is locked but zMud continues to parse triggers.
Depending on the Imm staff, a reboot or network connection cord pull when that happens is usually best.
