Zmud cannot connet because of a lack of db files. |
Well, my windows box was hiccupping and seeing that it had been months since I had put a fresh copy on it, I decided to wipe it clean and refresh the disk.
I backed up all my files and reloaded the windows and all of the files that I used, including IE 5.5 and MDAC 2.6 along with zmud 6.26a. Imagine my surprise that zmud won't run because I'm missing some database files needed to run and zmud directed me to the zugg site.
Reading the site, it tells me that I need 2.5x since I was using Win 98. I have 2.6 files. I'm downloading 2.5x MDAC files now and I'm hoping this would work, but I have to say that the 2.6 should have worked. Has anyone else run into this problem and what did you do to fix it?
I really would hate to have to start over and reload winblows.
Thanks,

If I recall correctly the use of MDAC 2.5x was a decision Zugg made on the advice of about 5 Jet/MDAC/ODBC experts that love zMud. Also I seem to recall at least one expert stating problems with 2.6 and higher with NT4.0 and Win95. So Zugg also chose on the basis of minimum problems for most users. All that out of the way, I can now say the MS in its infinite wisdom made a number of small changes that cumulatively make MDAC2.6 incompatible with 2.5. I also seem to recall that they never provided any type of uninstall for any of them.
The only advice I can really give is install the older version and hope you have no problems. |

Thank you for the insight. I have already solved my problem. Apparently, since one can overwrite different versions of MDAC files by installing different versions hence no need for an uninstall. At least until Microsoft changes the number of files. My opinion of Microsoft doesn't matter any more since Winblows is here for good. I've resigned myself to using a dual winblows/linux system.
Thanks again.

Well. I have the same problem on Windows XP (only since zMUD 2.26a BETA!).
And I don't think, it's Microsofts fault (alone). Because zMUD runs fine, if you run it as administrator.
Same with the eLicense Control when I updated. Only unlicense, uninstall and new install as Administrator worked (except that "missing components") problem.
I hope Zuggsoft solves this problem soon. I don't want to run ANY program as Administrator.
Esp. none that communicates with the internet...
