Is there a way to lock the settings (trigger,
alias,etc) from modifying ? |

Yep, just copy the settings file to a safe location (ie, onto a 3.5" floppy or some other form of removeable data storage) and keep it in a safe place. It might get damaged if the disk gets infected or gets dirty, but it won't spontaneously modify on you.
Beyond that, there's no way to lock in your settings short of making the file read-only--and that will cause a whole other series of headaches.
