MUDing through FireWalls |
Occasionally I find myself with enough free time at work, to be tempted to sneak in a few mudding moments. However firewalls, quickly and soundly put and to and end to these temptations since most porst outside of 80, 81, 443, 21 and occasionally 23 are blocked.
Does anyone know of MUDs/Clients that get around this problem? I know it may introduce a host of security should a malicious mudder, or server exist. Perhaps there is a MUD that provides and web-based interface to it MUD. I know of wUnderMU, a web-based client. However it doesn't address the issue of blocked ports.
BTW, for those naysayers who I would suggest that I shouldn't be trying to MUD at work, I say keep your opinions to yourself.

You can check out www.steelbytes.com for a TCP Port Redirector (on their software page), but I've never used it and can't say for sure that it'll work with muds.

I wou suggest you look up "proxy servers" and "tunneling" on the net. Your basic aim is to locate a proxy server that allows you to connect on port 80 and then will establish the tunnel on whatever other port you need.
