#CH and getting the value as a varable

How can I get the character name to be stored into a varable so I can do condition checks?

As a default the main window is named after the character you create. So, %char gives you the name of the current character. It's a pre-defined variable, but you can always do something like #VAR Character %char (don't know why you'd want to, but just to be complete).
