Problems with using inherited settings

I've been trying out using an inherited settings file for a few of my characters on the same mud, because they all have the same shortcuts, aliases and stuff. However, it seems to be more difficult to use than I expected.

When I wish to edit something from the inherited file, I cannot just change it in the user's settings file and get it updated in the inherited file. Instead I have to open the inherited file itself to make the changes. What's more, after I have made the change, it is not automatically updated in the currently open session. I have to quit from the mud, close the session and start a new one in order for the inherited settings to be read again.

Is this the way things are, or am I missing out something?

This is the way things are. When there are identical settings (by name or pattern) in both the Primary and Inherited files, the Primary takes precedence because it is loaded last. If changes to the Inherited took effect immediately, they could take precedence over identical Primary settings.

You can probably use the Load command on the Settings menu to avoid having to quit and restart.
