I need help bad. What's a girl to do?

I just tried to use ZMUD after not being able to use it for 2 months. It loads fine and then I get the list with my characters in it. When I click on one of my characters I get this error from ZMUD "Data provider or other service returned an E_Fail status" I don't know much about programming or what have you, but I'm not ignorant when it comes to computers. Could some shining knight assist me with this as in telling me what it means and how to fix it? I would be eternally grateful. Also I would like to add that I've gone ahead and tried to upgrade and I still get the same problem. I've even wiped ZMUD from my system, saving my MUD-specific files in a temporary locale and then putting them back after reinstalling ZMUD and I still get the same error.....please oh please help me!

My version of windows is 98SE and I all of a sudden keep getting this error....I tried your suggestion jesse and I still get the error. Please if there is anything else you could do to help or a direction you can point me in....I would greatly appreciate it. If Zugg reads this, I would like your help too please.
