Can't Connect to MUD

Having a wierd problem that popped up a few days ago. Basically I can't connect to the mud I like to play, even though it is up and running fine. I can connect using standard telnet, and I can connect to other muds using ZMud, just can't connect to the one I want to play using ZMud. Which kind of sucks, for obvious reasons.

Here's the thing though: The ip address reported by the lookup function is different from the address it actually tries connecting to even though I have use ip address checked. It connects to the same addy if I uncheck it as well. Also, both ip addys I see in ZMUD (the one from lookup and the one it tries connecting to) are different from the one telnet connects to.

So anyone know what's wrong? I tried asking on my MUDS bbs but no one seems to have any idea, beyond simple things like making sure I used the right port.

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like your address and/or port are just plain wrong.
I'd manually change the ip addy in character selection to match whatever simple telnet is able to connect to.

Also possible but not probable is that your ISP has a firewall that restricts traffic on certain ports because of viruses.

I tried typing in the ip reported from telnet and zmud still didn't connect. If it were a firewall on some port then telnet wouldn't work either though.

I'm sure of both the address and the port, especially since I can connect to that address and port via telnet. Plus it was working, then just stopped a couple days ago. I hadn't made any changes when it stopped, so it shouldn't suddenly be connecting to the wrong address.

Put the desired IP in the Host box.

Ok, I had tried that before I think. But tried it again anyway just to make sure, and noticed it is always trying to connect to the same wrong address. No matter what is in the host field, whether I check use ip address or not. I even tried typing in the host for another mud and it still tried to connect to the same non-working ip address!

So it's somehow got the ip address stuck in there, apparently. Is there any way to fix that? I just made a new connection dealie and it worked fine, so the problem isn't zmud itself. So I either need a way to fix the character I was using, or a simple and quick way to transfer all of my triggers and aliases over to a new character.

You could try the Corrupted Settings procedure from the FAQ.
  1. First, find the *.MUD file for your character. It is usually in the folder for the MUD you are playing.

  2. Rename this MUD file to something else.

  3. Run zMUD again and connect to your character Offline. This allows zMUD to create a new, blank MUD file for your character.

  4. Select the Import/Settings command from the Settings menu, and when prompted for a filename, select your old MUD file that you renamed. You should be able to import your aliases, triggers, etc, from your old file.

  5. When you have recovered your settings, don't forget to save them with the Settings/Save menu command.

If that doesn't fix the character, you can create a new character and follow roughly the same steps to import your settings.
