Mapper drawing bug: link tool rescrolls |
I don't use the automapping function; by the time it was feasible (if it even is) to get it to work on Aetolia, I'd already hand-drawn the majority of the world, and developed a set of aliases and triggers that captures info on the rooms (a good deal more info than the automapper does) and saves it the way I like it.
Thus I still have to draw my own maps. Since v7.x the map has worked so much better, but there is one key bug in drawing that, at least for me, is nearly 100% reproducible. If a zone is large enough to have scrolling, a substantial amount of the time when I first click with the room-link tool, the map scrolls out from under me. If I'm drawing on Level 1 the map also shifts to Level 0. The result is that the link is drawn in the wrong direction and it's impossible to connect it up.
To avoid this I'm in the habit of clicking the link tool, clicking on a blank part of the map, letting it scroll itself into nowhereland, scrolling back, clicking the link tool, and then I can safely draw my links. But next time I draw a room, it'll all be hosed again. Thus I tend to draw a lot of rooms before I draw any links, which is a bit of a hassle.
Sometimes clicking on a link between rooms will scroll me to somewhere else (or to a different level) even if I'm not in drawing mode.
Can anyone else replicate this? If so I'll submit a bug report.
By the way, is there an analog to "Move rooms to zone" to move rooms to a different level? If not, there should be. The only way I can find is to edit in the spreadsheet view, which is hugely tedious. |

To answer the moving of rooms. Simply select the rooms you want then select the menu option "Edit|Move". This will bring up a dialog letting you move them every which way.

I have had similar problems myself.
I think that your database is likely corrupted, or you do not have the latest Microsoft Jet Database stuff or whatever. When you manually create soo many rooms you are really going out of the design of the program. You can try to open the MDB in Microsoft Access and Compact/Repair it. Save a backup copy first. |

Thanks, I'll give that a try. It'd be great if it was as simple as that.
