Couple Problems (lag and connection) |
Ok normally I'm not one to complain about zMUD. But I keep getting killed cause of something.
My problems are these.
1. When I'm connecting to muds that I had before I upgraded right after the server displays its information the client from god knows where sends "n" to the mud, I've scowered all my triggers and class commands and can't find where the "n" is comming from.
2. When I do get connected I get intense lag spikes. Now I thought it might just be that mud but I tried it on a few and get it. The only thing I can think of is that my McaFee Firewall is doing something to slow the retrieval rate, because everything else seems to work fine. I have Cable modem and everything else I do I don't get intense lag spikes except for when I play Counter-Strike but thats only because of low end graphic card.
If you have any Idea on how to solve either of these problems please let me know, frankly I don'y care about the "n" problem but thought I would throw that in. The one I'm worried about the most is the lag spikes. |

1) Check the "atconnect" alias and see if it's gotten something assigned to it. That is executed when you connect, followed by the autologin triggers.
2) Haven't seen this myself. I've gotten users in the past who had problems with the McAfee Firewall, so it might be that. Are you on Windows XP? If so, you might also check for an updated network driver since many of the network drivers that shipped with XP can't handle the high-rate of small packets that zMUD sends to the MUD, especially during speedwalking.
Otherwise, you can turn off your triggers globally in the Settings menu just to see if that changes anything. If it's not the triggers, then it's most likely Internet lag. I've noticed that past couple of nights that some network sites are really flaky. Don't know if it's the latest spam worm clogging the Internet or what. But if a router between you and the MUD is having trouble and dropping packets, then you can get severe lag since Windows has a several second retransmit timeout for dropped packets. |

k will try and let you know, The system that I use is Win 98 SE, haven't tried it on my XP computer. I do however have a router for my home network. I will try hookin into the DMA once and see if I still get the lag.

The aconnect had a n in it for some reason.
I also found that when the lag occurs it stalls my entire PC. I turned off all triggers and it still happened. I don't really know what to say. |

Ok, I get the same problem. I had 6.16 installed and working great, no lag. Updated to the new one and every so often I have a 2-3 second lag. I thought it may be McAfee, so I unloaded it, still happens. I connect via dial-up. Drivers are for a standard 3Com/USR Sportster modem.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated |
