6.22 Safe to Upgrade? |
I have been using 6.22 ever since it came out because it solved some map issues which I won't go into. I have tried upgrading before and run into map conversion problems and ended up sticking with 6.22 since it mostly worked fine.
Lately, it has been crashing for no apparent or duplicatable reason, so I am again thinking about upgrading. I read in the FAQ about 6.4x using a new eLicense system for XP and that we must re-register. This is fine with me so long as I can safely go back to 6.22 if I don't like the upgrade. So that is my question: can I use my current license for 6.22 once I re-register for an upgraded 6.4x?
[note: the eLicense system 6.22 uses has worked fine for me under XP] |

I realize the original post occured during the holiday season. But I am still awaiting an answer, especially now that 7.01 has arrived. I won't attempt to upgrade unless I am sure I can revert to my mostly working 6.22 version.
Thanks. |

I recently tried to upgrade 3 times
with the auto-upgrade thing.
it downloaded the whole 7.0 file
then just sat there...and then my 6.16 wouldn't work either
had to reboot to get it back
jus my experience

You should be able to install it to a different directory (eg c:zmud7) and then it should run side-by-side with the old version (well, not physically at the same time, but you can exit one and then load the other... there's a check which prevents multiple instances of zmud from running at the same time).
With regards to your elicense question, I don't know. My guess is a new version of elicense shouldn't prevent a program wrapped in an old version from running. Email support@elicense.com though, for a non-guess answer :) |

Be sure, however, to unlicense the old version first so that the new eLicense version doesn't make you accidentaly loose one of your three licenses (this might or might not happen). Then, as Rainchild suggested, install it to a different directory to keep the old version around.
As to what Glinka mentioned, I believe that 6.16 had a bug with the auto-update that was fixed in later versions. In these cases, the file should be downloaded directly from the webpage. |
