zMUD v7.01 Public Version released |
Well, it's been a long time coming, but zMUD v7.x is now available for general use. We've been beta testing for the past year to get to this point and I hope everyone likes the new version.
It will take me a week or so to update various pages on the web site, like the New Features, so have patience. Also, I'm guessing there will be a 7.02 release later in the week to fix a couple of minor issues.
The most important features/changes to 7.0 are:
1) Much faster and more stable mapper compared to v6.62 or any past version. Because a lot of mapper quirks were fixed, you might need to change some of your #TAG triggers or anything you might have been doing to "kludge" the mapper into following you. So, stuff like extra #OK or #STEP or #PAUSE triggers might need to be replaced. You might just want to get rid of your triggers and try using the Config/Reconfig to see if the mapper works without any kludges. A lot of stuff has been fixed to make it work better and faster. All of the slowness in previous versions has been fixed. Zones load instantly now, and speedwalking is *very* fast.
2) New Trigger engine based upon Perl regular expressions. Great care has been taken to ensure that your existing triggers will continue to work. zMUD now converts those triggers into regular expressions internally and uses the new PCRE library to execute ALL triggers much faster than before. You could see anywhere from a factor of 2 to a factor of 10 in speed improvement depending upon the kind of triggers you use. And of course you can now use regular expressions directly, even with subpattern capturing that the old regex engine didn't support.
3) Full Windows XP support, including Themes. You'll notice this first...zMUD now has more colorful icons and works properly with your Win XP themes.
If you have trouble with the new version, please post to a NEW TOPIC thread and we will try to help. Be sure to post as much detail about the problem you are having as possible.
A lot of work from myself as well as the dozens of beta testers have gone into this version. In order to encourage people to try the new version, I have also reset the 30-day trial for anyone that used zMUD v6.40 or earlier. So, if you tried an older version of zMUD and found it to be slow or unstable, give the new version a try. It's better than most of the public versions I have released in the last couple of years.
Happy MUDding! |

I have just downloaded it ... the new icons are very good, the mapper is faster and it works better than I have ever expected and perl ... I LOVE the new perl-based regular expression [8D]
Thanks to Zugg and to the Beta-Tester
PS: I'm waiting for the first ZMapper Pubblic versione (ok,ok I'll wait [:p]) |

Yes well that might be good news for some, but I've just downloaded it and cannot now gain access to zmud at all. I keep getting code 23 and code 0 msg's about my licence [V]. Considering that it was absolutely fine before I wish I hadn't bothered.

If you're having problems with your license, email support@zuggsoft.com and check with elicense's support (viatech.com?) for help.

Rhyn_Essence, that is a issue with elicence. I would give them a call. Most likely your old elicence was not removed and you have used up all 3 copies. Elicence should be able to reset them for you.

It is good news for many of us. It's unfortunate you've run into difficulties but a publicity thread isn't the place to get answers to them. Please create your own post, using the New Topic link at the top of the page if you are interested in getting a solution.
