zMud 6.62 has a delay |
Hi,
A friend of mine has worked with an older version of zMud until I persuaded her to use the new version.
Strange thing is that she noticed a delay of about half a second with the new version. Which can be fatal during a fight.
Is there a way to fasten zMud without disabling Triggers?
Or do we have to wait for the new version?

First you must find out if the delay is indeed because of the triggers. Try clicking on the little gun icon at the right of the command line to disable all triggers. If scrolling speeds up, then the triggers are making it slow.
Another thing to watch out is triggers that contain #WAIT. This command will make zMUD pause MUD output until the time given to #WAIT passes. |

Hi,
She is working with the same triggers she used in her old zMud-Version and the old version is faster.
So it must be something else beside the triggers.
And she also tested a new char without any triggers and still had the delay.
What else is running in background? Perhaps the mapper or so?

The Mapper and Databases don't use any memory unless Loaded (opened up)

i've actually noticed this problem whenever i run any of the newer versions of zmud on windows XP. i've actually never been able to get zmud to run at full speed in windows XP, it's really frustrating.

This is meaningless. None of you have said what versions you are talking about, either as your "old" or "new" version, but the original post is from September of last year so it's clear that the "new" version there isn't the latest version now (7.01) and probably isn't the same as the "new" version in the posts from this month (February). There is absolutely NO reason to suspect that any of you are talking about the same two versions or have identical problems.
Instead of trying to piggyback on Matthew's friend's problem, which probably has nothing to do with your problem, click on the NEW TOPIC link at the top of the page and make your own topic about your problem. Be sure to give us some DETAILS if you really expect anyone to provide any help. General statements such as "the new version of zMUD is slower than my old version", while they may be accurate (but are more likely just misperception) are of no value at all in finding the cause of the problem.
I can tell you how to narrow down the problem a little, and that's by eliminating potential causes one at a time. Some suggestions: If you are using the mapper, close it and see if the problem goes away or improves. If you are using the database, close it and see if the problem goes away or improves. If you are using multiple characters, close all but one of them and see if the problem goes away or improves. In case that particular character is the cause of the problem, close that one and try another one. If you are using triggers, disable triggers by clicking the gun icon next to the command line and see if the problem goes away or improves. If you are using aliases, disable parsing by clicking the computer icon next to the command line and see if the problem goes away or improves. If you are using child windows, close them and see if the problem improves or goes away. If you are running any other applications besides zMUD, close them and see if the problem improves or goes away. If you can think of anything else you are doing which might, by any stretch of the imagination, affect zMUD's speed than disable or close it and see if the problem improves or goes away.
There. That's far more specific than the two-liners you two posted. When you post your new topics, please provide something of similar length packed with a similar amount of specifics. If nothing else, you should at least include the results of following each of my suggestions. |
