Can't generate route after doing update

I seem to have started running into a problem in the last few weeks that has me stumped. What I'm finding is that if I have generated an F6 route, ie. defined a destination and selected F6 to generate route from current location, and while the route is "active", I choose to Update data files, I can then no longer generate a new route without restarting AC Explorer Pro. Clicking on the "Find Path" button simply does nothing.

Using AC Explorer Pro 3.33 under WinXP SP1.

Yes, that is true. This problem was fixed in zExplorer but remains in AC Explorer. I'm afraid you should always try to restart AC Explorer after doing an update since there are several things that don't work correctly when the data is updated.

Dang... that's a real pain.

I do a lot of content adding and updating in AC Spedia, often as I'm doing a new quest and so I'm regularly downloading after I've made an update to check the data. Having to restart after each download then means also having to re-generate the routes.

I hope this isn't the start of the "we can't migrate from ACE to zEx because we'll lose real-time tracking but there are bugs in ACE which are fixed in zEx which we'll have to work-around or put up with" thang.

While ACE has always been a wonderful product that I can't live without I also feel uncomfortable knowing the product has effectively reached the end of development but due to the issues already discussed with real-time tracking and zExplorer we can't migrate off it without losing functionality.

Yes, that's partially true, and I apologize. But for similar reasons as discussed in the zMapper forum, I must spend my limited time on a new project (the email client) that will boost sales so that I can afford to then work on fun projects like zExplorer. While zExplorer sales have been better than zMapper, zExplorer still doesn't support itself and is subsidized by zMUD. I've worked hard to try and get zExplorer to the point where it's usable on new games where tracking is less of an issue. And honestly, the current version of AC Explorer Pro has been out for more than a year and this is the first report I've gotten of this problem. I'm sure that it's a problem and I'm sure that it's causing inconvience, but it just isn't effecting a large number of people. I'm just not at the point where I can spend time tweaking projects like this. If I don't get another project going that can generate sales, then all of this discussion will be mote because I'd be out of business. By taking the longer range view on this, Zugg Software will be able to stay in business and be able to release updates in the future. I purposely planned this particular time frame to work on the mail client because Horizons shipped and the next "big" MMORPG won't be out for probably a year.

The part of your statement that is correct is that ACE is at the end of it's development. I've always said that the upgrade path is zExplorer. However, as you said, because zExplorer doesn't have the tracking (yet), you are stuck with AC Explorer. But AC Explorer is a mature and stable product that works well for most people, so that's not a bad situation. I *do* plan to continue working on zExplorer in the future.
