Speech to Text |
I was looking over some of the old posts trying to find any advice on good software to use. I didn't really gather much. Is there any good program out there that works with Zmud so that one can dictate to the mud instead of having to type everything out. I've been a heavy mudder for about 5 years now and I really am not fancying carpal tunnel =P Please let me know of anything i could d/l or buy that is Speech to Text. Thanks.

Have you checked out Dragon Dictate or ViaVoice? I've heard those are both very good commercial products. They work with any program, not just zMUD. I just did a random google search for
voice-control dragon-dictate viavoice
and turned up a lot of links with reviews of different speech-to-text products. |

Personally I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred Version 5.05 and it works pretty well out of the box. If you have enough patience to really train it really well it should do wonders.
Here is a copy/paste from the features in the help file...
quote: What's new in Dragon NaturallySpeaking
Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 5 has many new features to make your dictation easier and faster to use.
Dictate into virtually any application
Whenever you see the DragonBar on your screen, you can dictate into any application and use many Dragon NaturallySpeaking commands.
Learn hands-on with a new interactive Tutorial
The Dragon NaturallySpeaking Tutorial leads you through basic dictation techniques.
Get started promptly
All computers that meet the minimum system requirements of the software now learn your voice in about 3 to 5 minutes.
Dictate with improved accuracy
Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 5 continues to improve accuracy, from a company already recognized for its high recognition accuracy.
Choose quick and easy ways to correct mistakes
Proofread and correct your work as you dictate in the DragonPad with the convenient Quick Correct list. This feature is available in Dragon NaturallySpeaking Standard and higher editions.
Never forget a command again
Can't remember a command? Voice commands are readily available with helpful on-screen reminders, extensive online Help, a detachable command reference card, and two Top 10 Commands stickers for your keyboard and monitor. Say "View Command List" to see the Command List in the online Help.
Add words from your documents quickly and easily
The new Add Words From Documents feature scans your documents for particular words you use and adds them to the Dragon NaturallySpeaking vocabulary in a few simple steps.
Manage your e-mail by voice
Dictate into popular e-mail programs with special built-in voice commands.
Find new ways to surf the Web
New features and voice commands enhance your web browser.
Enter commonly used text
Create dictation shortcuts to insert multiple lines of text, such as a letter closing, with only a few words. This feature is available in Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred and higher editions.
Dictate using a different dialect or language
Install and switch among multiple languages or multiple dialects of the same language. This feature may not be available in all Dragon NaturallySpeaking editions.
Dictate now, correct later
Save a recording of your dictation session as deferred correction so that you or an assistant can proofread and revise your work later. This feature is available in Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional and higher editions.
Work in Lotus Notes
Use new built-in commands, including Select-and-SayTM editing, in Lotus® Notes®. This feature is available in Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional and higher editions.
Organize and file your voice commands
Manage your macro scripts and custom commands by placing them into multiple files. This feature is available in Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional and higher editions.

Alrighty I just got done using DragonSpeak for a good long bit for the last day or so.... and it works super super well...except for me on any word were 'r' is a major sounding letter (I have a problem with R's any time i say a word with an r in it it doesnt come out... the computer cant tell the difference between 'all' and 'are' with me for example) and also you need professional version or better to get the voice macros and really flashy features (at least in Vr. 5 which is what i have...dont know about versions 6/7/...)
Just thought i'd make a little follow-up post to give ya a better idea of DragonSpeak's ups and downs...hopfully the little 'r' problem will go away with more training, otherwise... pray you dont have a similar pernounciation problem :p |
