Getting Can't Write to zmud.ini file error |
I have already check the FAQ and can't find a solution to this.
My screen splits and when I try to quit or click out of it, I get Can't write to C:zmudzmud.ini and then I get Out of System Resoures. I have to CNTL ALT DLT to cancel ZMUD session. What is this all about and how do I fix it? I'm running WindowsXP and have plenty of disk space.
Thanks. |

Sounds like this file is set to read-only. This commonly occurs when restoring a backup from a CD.

I haven't restored from a backup. I don't think the zmud.ini file is read only. This seems to happen only when I'm in a certain MUD and I click to split the screen or when I have typed too much into the command line. I'm using the current production release of zmud... I don't dare use the beta versions yet.

As far as just the part about it saying the zmud.ini file is read-only, I've had this happen a lot but can never reliably reproduce it. It happens when I go to settings and change some stuff, then close the settings window. It tells me that, I open the settings window back up and it my changes are still there. I close it and it doesn't gripe. As near as I can tell, there's no harm in the error when it happens to me (none of the nastiness reported above). Then again, I'm on Win2k so that might be a reason.
The zmud.ini file is definitely not read-only and I have full perms to edit it.
Like I said, this is very intermittent so I don't know how well I'd be able to track down the exact set of circumstances causing it. |

Actually, I just got: "Error saving settings to: C:Program FileszMUDArmageddonArmageddon.mud"
That might have been what I was getting, rather than the ini. All I've been doing is playing with the Reconfigure while offline, always hitting cancel.
Again, the file isn't RO and I have perms. I don't run any kind of backup/archiving software, so isn't causing it, either.
Hope this helps. |

I'm still getting this problem of Out of System Resources ...then when I click OK, I'll get the Unable to write to c:ZmudZmud616zmud.ini file. I'll get this message when I screen splits, or if I try to click on QUICK--just about anything. Any other ideas? How can I tell if zmud.ini is a READONLY file. And why would it ever be readonly? Why is it trying to save something there anyway?
Thanks. |

Right click on the file and click properties. Look at the bottom for a check next to "Ready Only".

ZMud.ini contains almost everything about ZMud regarding window properties (ie, height, width, top, left, maximized, minimized, stay on top, etc). It also contains any global settings you may have created. It shouldn't ever be read-only, but it might if you copied the file from CD for whatever reason.
