how do i change this so it will not use stupid portals in vault and whatever?

To remove a portal from the route finding, click on it on the map, then go to the Edit tab and uncheck the Enable option and save it. Or you can right-click on the portal and turn off the Enable option there. When a portal is disable, it is then ignored for the route finding.

As a more advanced use, you can assign a level range to a portal and then use a level in the route finding and it will only use portals within that range. So then a high level character would be able to use portals that a low level character would not.

Don't dismiss portals within dungeons though. Once you know the layout of a dungeon, there are several *very* useful routes that require going through a dungeon (and not just the "Subway" portals). I remember making great use of several dungeon routes back when I played heavily.
