I think Zugg is away for a few days, you may as well go ahead and email the log.
Also, did you try disabling your virus checker and other background task like I suggested. Firewalls, virus checkers, ICQ or other Instant Messangers.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling from scratch?

Okay, I think I know what the problem is. I needed to re-install xp so I did, that way I could know there was no other programs interfering with zmud. (two birds with one stone) Just for grins, I waited a day to install my license, just let zmud run on trial mode and wouldn't you know? It didn't crash at all. But once I installed my license today.. BANG. Zugg said they did something new to elicense or are using a new version, either way, it's causing zmud to crash on my machine. So now the question is, since it's only affecting a vast minority of people, can we expect a fix at all?

It's hard to tell with xp, I remeber with good old windows before you could actually look at the error, but with xp it doesn't tell you what kind of error, page fault, protection fault, corrupt app, all it says is the program needs to shut down and lets you look at the specs sent to their people (who probably don't care) but don't let you copy it. But enough about hating microsoft, back to the problem. So that is what happens with it crashes, and as I said before, it didn't crash when running under trial mode but started as soon as I entered the license in.
Not to mention elicense is mentioned in the tech specs that windows lets you look at.

If you want to view the file errors you go to your error log like NORMAL people and you scan the information there. Oh, and by the way, if your programs run on windows 9x but wont work on xp, a nice little thing about XP is that you can right click the program, go to compatibility, and switch to what version of windows you'd like it to run the program under. Just incase you guys have those programs that go wacko.

zMud runs just fine under WinXP. My hubby and I have been using it with XP since the we beta'd XP. No need to adjust compatibility, or any other such nonsense.

Thanks for the tip, I already tried adjusting compatibility. I also sent elicense a email asking if maybe they could look into it. I'm starting to really think this is a bug with their software.

If it only happened when you licensed it, then your license may be corrupt. Un-license it and then re-license it.

Tried that already too and that didn't work. Just to recap. I'm on an xp machine, I've uninstalled and reinstalled zmud completely, updated all drivers and xp, followed the zmud links and updated that. Re-installed xp, set compatibility once, unlincensed, relicened. Cleared all char filds and settings files. I've started everything from scratch. The only time zmud has worked without crashing was when I ran it in trial mode.

XP machines:
With all this installing, uninstalling and fixing, chances are elicense has become corrupted...use the uninstall tool from elicense to clear it from the registry, you might need to do it a few times to remove it completely, reboot, uninstall elicense again.
Install zmud cleanly to a directory that hasnt been used yet with an admin level user account and run it as an administrator one time (to allow elicense to do its thang, etc), and then things should be usable.
You could try downloading zmud from zuggsoft again, "just in case" too...

Why oh WHY did I have pass door on...

verify that gator or any other spyware isn't installed on your system? :P

it's amazing how unstable your computer can get when you get gatored :P

I've yet to see a crash in zmud since ages ago, like 6.3x beta's. And everyone I know (IRL) who uses zmud does it without problems on winxp too. That's a total of 9 different machines with 0 zmud issues... but I guess it doesn't help your situation

seriously do check out that the gator crap isn't causing your problem, that and other hax0r things like kazaa and imesh and stuff :P

As far as doing a clean install, I should let you know that when I reinstalled win xp, it was after reformating the entire hard drive. So I've already taken care of making sure everything was clean. I'm runnint spy bot for anti spyware.
Ahh, here we go, apparently zmud is crashing due to access violations. Maybe my elicese guess was wrong.

Hi there,
I'm having problems with crashes too. I'm using windows ME (eep!), and ever since I upgrated to 6.5+ it's been randomly crashing, but with the same error messages. Using 6.4 everything worked perfectly! Zmud is great so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the messages I get when the program crashes:

Zmud has caused an error in <unknown>.
Zmud will now close.
If you continue to experience problems try restarting your computer.

-- I click close and the same message pops up a bunch more times, then I get this error

Exception Eaccess Violation in module ZMUD.EXE at 000c3f50.
Access violation at address 004c3f50 in module 'ZMUD.EXE' Read of address FFFFFFFF.

-- then another access violation message until my screen is way way spammed.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Was the settings editor docked anywhere at all? There were some recent problems in the beta where docking the mapper/settings would make zmud go *ZAP*.

Take us through the full installation process, too. Format, install XP...then what do you do exactly? Install ISP software? Service packs for XP? With the last XP service pack, things like the jet drivers (for me) are up to date with no extra pissfarting around on the data page.

It's also entirely possible you dont have enough RAM, or the RAM you have is faulty. Is zmud the only program crashing out? Is the system overclocked to an extreme?

Why oh WHY did I have pass door on...

Okay, first off, I didn't format/reinstall just for zmud, I had to do it anyway. But okay, so I formated, reinstalled. First I got the update's zuggsoft had linked to their page under the xp section. Then I updated the rest of my drivers. I put zmud on without any other additional software loaded and even now I don't really have anything extra. I didn't put in my order id. For the rest of that day it worked perfectly. During which time I installed word. The next day, in the morning I decided to put in my order id. It bombed within two minutes of that and has continued to ever since. I have one gb of ram, so I definatly have enough. It's possible one of my 512 sticks are bad, as bad sticks causes random crashing. Except I multi-task a lot of high memory sucking programs sometimes and if it were the mem chip causing it, I think other programs than just zmud would of crashed by now. Also to note zmud crashes no matter how many programs I have running or not. As stated before the error type is access violation. There is only one account on this xp machine and it is the administrator, so that can't be the problem.
p.s. I never said zmud sucked or implied it, in ealier posts I noted that I am in the vast minority, I just want to get to the bottom of this so I can use zmud again.

I get the same error as that post (Running Win 98) zMUD will run for varing amounts of time before this error
condition occurs. I am at a loss for why it does. To reiterate Any ideas? - Thanks in advance

If you are getting this error after being connected to the MUD for a few minutes, please send me an email to support@zuggsoft.com with your registration code and mention that you are getting this crash. There seems to be some old licenses generated by one of the 6.0x beta versions that are causing the crash with the new license routines. We are working out a procedure to fix this, but we need more data. Using your reg code we can verify whether or not this is the cause of your crashes. But obviously we can't exchange reg code info in a public forum like this, so please send me private emails.
