Connection

Can anyone explain what could be the problem in this situation:

zMUD is able to connect to port 5500 of a server, but suddently unable to connect to port 4000 of a server. No zMUD settings have been altered and the same problem exists whether hostname or IP is used.

Any feedback is welcome...

Someone blocked port 4000 at a firewall?

The mud server is no longer running at port 4000?

You've been banned from the mud???

I'm sure I could come up with more....

Please do, because the options you posted are not it...the person experiencing the problem is able to connect to that mud using telnet or other clients...but not with zMUD.

It usually helps if "the person experiencing the problem" (henceforth known as Tpetp) is the one to report it.

Without details, this is just a guessing game. Lalaynya made some guesses. They were pretty good ones.

If zMUD is "suddenly" unable to do something it did before, look for the things that were just changed.
Did Tpetp just install a new version of zMUD?
Did Tpetp just change computers?
Did Tpetp just change ISP's?
Did Tpetp's ISP just get bought out by some other service provider?
Did the MUD just change providers?
Did Tpetp change his password on the MUD?
Was Tpetp messing around with the character Edit screen and maybe changed the password stored on zMUD?

Like I said before, without details it's just a guessing game. Make some wild guesses of your own.

Hey Myra. P would say Hi if she knew I was replying to you.

Have you witnessed zMUD doing this personally? I'd like to know more about it not connecting. I.e., can tpetp ping it or use straight telnet at the same time zMUD is failing?

If so it's probably a zMUD setting that intentionally or not, was changed.

Smooch Phred for me.

Another possibility for Tpetp:

When they edit the character properties for the mud they have a space in the host for it ie:

Host: www.mymud.org <-- trailing space
Port: 23

This will cause zMud to fail DNS look up and connection attempt.
Have them perhaps try to connect with host being the Ip
