settings...copy or import classes? |
hi all,
what I want to do is this..
create a folder called Basic, then copy
some heavily used class folders to it,
then import or export or copy the info
between different characters.
I have 2 main screen names, with 5 characters
each, and would like to shuffle all the
useful class folders containing triggers, aliases
etc, between them all...
I'd have class folders to share with names
like Hilites, Speech, Actions, etc..
sorry folks, just can't seem to get the hang of if!
Thanks for any help,
Glink

Use inherited settings?
quote:
Edit Character (Files Information)
Each character can have two Settings Files: Primary and Inherited. When zMUD loads your character, it first loads any settings in the DEFAULT.MUD file. This is used to initialize many zMUD settings and cannot be disabled. Next, settings in your Inherited Settings file are loaded. Most people do not use this feature, but it allows you to set up common settings that you want to share between several characters. Inherited settings files can be in the current directory or folder, or can also be stored in the directory containing the ZMUD.EXE file. After loading your Inherited Settings file, then your Primary Settings file is loaded. It contains settings specific for this character.

Inherited settings would be nice,
if I could find out how to get all the class folders from 10 different characters that i would like to use
into a basic.mud kind of file.
I couldn't figure it out, so thought that
there might be some way to just copy each
class folder i want to use and then either
paste, import, or export the copied folder
to each of my characters.
The mud I play is Dragon's Gate, and there
are basic macros, triggers, and aliases that
i can use with each character, but i also
need folders unique to each character, for commands
that are character specific, like one can fly
and another can berserk or disguise.
again thanks for any help,
sorry to have to ask you all again.

Here's a general procedure you can follow.
Open a blank character by pressing ESC from the character selection screen
On the Settings/Import menu select Settings...
Select the appropriate MUD folder and .mud file for a character you wish to import from
Select the desired classes and settings, then press the Import button
Repeat as desired to import additional classes/settings from other characters
Go to the Settings editor (click the Settings button)
Check the settings you've imported. Remove any settings that you don't want to apply to all characters. Add additional settings if needed
Close settings editor
Open the character selection screen by clicking the Chars button
Select one of the characters and click the Edit button
Go to the Files tab and see what the default name is for the Inherited file. Select the filename and copy it to the clipboard
Click the Cancel button
Go back to the main window for the blank character
From the Settings menu, select Save As...
Select the appropriate folder, then paste in the filename you just copied
Save
From the File menu, select Close window
On the character selection screen, select each character for the affected MUD and verify they all use the same inherited file

wow!
thanks for the help folks..
i had a few problems..
::* Open the character selection screen by clicking the Chars button::
when i did this, i lost the blank character
screen with all my new stuff, also, my
charaters had no Inherited file...
but using a little of this and that, i got it working!
just made a new blank character and imported stuff to it, also saved s a basic.mud file in
the dgate folder, and also used the settings
editor :file:open and opened the blank
character and drag/dropped from it to a new
class folder called basic in one of my characters..
prolly not the easiest, but its working!
thanks again, you all are the best!
