SImutronicts/GSL tags |
How can I shut off the new zmuds support for Simutronics GSL tags? I've been writing very complex scripts with zmud for the past several years, and I've incorporated all of the GSL tags into my trigger layouts. Now, I can't see the tags because zmud does all of this parsing internally. I refuse to rewrite my scripts because Simu has managed to convince you guys to fuck zmud up like this. BTW, is there also coding in here so that Simu can tell who is using zmud easily so that they may pick out scripters? As many of you are aware who are familiar with Simutronics, scripting is ILLEGAL in their game. Please tell me you didn't sell out. Any info/help is appreciated, thanks.

Ok, I was a little hasty in posting this I suppose. After 45 minutes of gazing at the preference window I finally found out the clearly obvious way to turn it off.

Glad to know you found out the answer to the problem. However, please refrain from using that language in the future. The forum covers it up but it is still not welcome.
By the way, there is no code built in to alert Simutronics of people using zMUD, but they can find out if they want very easily. They just have to query the terminal type and zMUD returns a type of "zmud". This is the same for any other MUD and Simutronics could have done this in the past too, before native support for Simutronics games was coded into zMUD. However, you can also change the default terminal type zMUD sends when asked in the Preferences, although if the MUD keeps asking, zMUD will keep cycling through the answers including a type of "zmud".

Sorry about the language. Out of curiosity, do you know the command zmud sends Simu to turn on the gsl codes to begin with? There are a few different options that I'm aware of.
~/FE~:WIZARD /VERSION~:1.08 /P~:WIN32
or FeStArT
Just wondering if it registers itself as the FE:Wizard |

Oh and afk scripting is LEGAL and fine in DR:The Fallen <wink> Besides the eScape fe is quite the powerful script machine. No timer built in or anything. You should see what some of the people have done with it in TF.

You can also very easily convert your triggers into new GSL triggers and then still let zMUD handle GSL stuff. Things like the mapper configuration and stuff are useful in the new version. And to change your triggers to GSL triggers should be pretty trivial (just remove the <28>GS beginning of the pattern)

Yes, I see that now, thanks. I was just a little concerned at first because it seemed much like how Simutronics had turned the WizardFE, which was a useful 3rd party client at first, into a nazish way of controlling scripting and spying. The GSL triggers I have built in shouldn't be too hard to alter either now that I look into it. Thanks for the help. |

Hrmm I never noticed any spying on people with the wizard for scripting, that is all done through some AI software that checks peoples learning rates over a length of time. If you are learning say, 10 skills at mind lock constantly for more than lets say 4 hours (made up numbers) It will send up a flag and someone may check you out. But there is no <hey I am running a script> sent to Simu from the wizard. You can check this by watching the packets quite easily. But anyways All this is moot since scripting in The fallen versions is just fine and dandy. Heck I am in Plat and use zMUD because of the funtionality of it. can see all my buffs at a glance, have all my inventory categorized and displayed in a window so I don't hafta type inventory alla time. So on so forth.

With one command, a GM can get a list of people in the game, what FE they are using, and if they are using a script atm. They couldn't do this originally. |

No, not quite. Such a command would return a line of info for every user in the game. No GM would want to be scrolled with 600 to 1000 lines of info to pick through. There are commands that do all of those things, but it's not just one.
They also cannot see if you are using zMud. What they see is that you are not using the Wizard or eScape. You roll into an "other" category. I suspect that this might change with the new agreement they have with Zugg now, but there is nothing to fear there.
Alan is correct in that the primary way for them to find AFK scripters is to check learning rate over time. Once found, they are checked to see if they are responsive to the environment. As long as you respond, you can script all you want. Of course, Greenman, you said you were in TF anyway, so the point is moot.

I am 100% positive they can tell if you are using zmud or another client. I am also 100% positive they have list commands to sort players using various mudclients. |

Run a packet sniffer, and find the packet that tells Simu, "Hey, I'm using Zmud". If you're really paranoid, write a bot that intercepts the packet and re-writes to say, "Hey, I'm using the Wizard". End of problem.

The new versions of zMUD function as if it was the Wizard Frontend. zMUD is sending the exact same login and command data as the Wizard client. So, as far as I know, there is currently no way for Simutronics to tell the difference between a Wizard and a zMUD user. There is talk of flagging zMUD seperately with it's own client code, but that has not yet been done.
There is no *direct* way for them to determine if you are running scripts. Neither Wizard nor zMUD send any such information back to the game server. The servers are simply monitoring your playing patterns to determine this. The way they do this is independant upon what client you are using, so it doesn't matter whether you are using Wizard, zMUD, or "Joes fancy MUD client".
And while zMUD responds with "zmud" as the Telnet Terminal Type option negotiation (which Simutronics games dont even query, but other MUDs do), you can change the zMUD response in your Emulation preferences.

I was just curious because one of the login methods the wizard uses to access the server is first the keycode and then this line:
/FE:WIZARD /VERSION:1.08 /P:WIN32
That shows that the cilent is running the wizardFE. Either way I don't have much to worry about, I'm just being overanalytic. Thanks for the help. |

Wow. I just mud on a Merc-based MUD, thought I knew quite a bit. You're all blowing me out of the water with some of this stuff. Wow again.

Yes, both the SGE and the logging in through the website will generate that but, as I'm sure you know, it isn't needed to connect. Everyone who used zMud for Simu's games before Zugg added support is familiar with the fact that only the key needed to be sent. You never had to tell them what FE you were using.
As I mentioned before, the GM lists don't see that you are using zMud, they see that you are not using the Wizard or eScape. You fall into the 'other' category. Even that I suspect was more for statistical tracking, to see how many people were actually using the provided FE's vs. a third party product.
If they want to hunt people down for AFK scripting, there are far better tools available.

zMUD uses the /FE:BROWSER_FE command to indicate that it is the same as their "browser" front end, which I think is eScape rather than Wizard.
