Can only play 1 char via ZMud 6.15

I re-installed ZMud after formatting my hard drive and used create a new char to connect to WoTMud and entered a character of mine that already exists. I imported my saved triggers/aliases text file and all was hunky dory. So fine so far.

After I rented in normal way and waited the customary 5 minutes (6 just in case) I tried to do the same for another character I have. It would not let me connect!!! I kept getting 'The lost connection to' and 'This could have been caused by any of the following' messages.

To sort out a query I un-installed ZMud and re-installed it again. This time I connected to WotMud using another already created char. Hunky dory, so fine so far. After renting in normal way and waiting I tried to log on with character I tried the first time I re-installed and got the same messages as before.

This has got me right puzzled! The IP address I am using to connect to WotMud is 12.14.84.254 and the Port is 2222. I ain't mucked about with anything else, positive!!

So summary is I can connect to WoTMud via ZMud with any character I have but cannot connect more than that one character.

Does anyone have an idea that might solve this problem? Incidently I can connect to WotMud via Telnet or the Browser with any char and I have no problems at all.

First, go ahead and upgrade to 6.16, the latest public version. 6.15 had some serious problems if I remember correctly.

You only get the "Lost connection to" message after you connect to a MUD, so I'd guess the problem is an incorrect name/password during login.

  • To test this, first use telnet to login to two of your existing characters in order to verify the names and passwords.

  • Next, create (on zMUD) and login one of these existing characters, then rent and wait the required time. While you're waiting, create the second existing character on zMUD, and open it OFFLINE. Disable triggers. Then connect to WoTMUD and login by typing in the name and password of the second character yourself. If you aren't disconnected, zMUD isn't the problem but triggers or character settings might be.

  • Rent. Select Offline at the "Lost connection" screen. Wait the required time. Reconnect and log back in (still with the second character), using #CHAR for your name and #PW for your password. If you are disconnected then you probably made a mistake on one of these when you created the character in zMUD. If not, rent and select Offline.

  • Turn triggers back ON. Wait the required time. Reconnect (still the second character). This time, zMUD's autologin should answer the name/password questions. If everything goes okay, the problem disappeared. If you get disconnected, your login triggers (or atconnect alias) need editing.

not sure if my promblem is the same but I recently decided to upgrade my zmud I was currently using the completly free zmud but then I dicided that I wanted to see how much progress Zugg Soft has made with the upgrades. I have been a loyal customer for about 6 years now. And I have loved every version of Zmud that you have created. I must say I hope to someday work with you. after High school ofcourse though. anyway my problem is that When I upgraded to 6.16 and played it worked just fine for some time. Then I started having a problem. all today. I tried restarting my computer but that didn't affect how the zmud was acting. I got an error and ignored it the first time. cause I get them all the time through out my years of using zmud. This one was different I found this out. when I had closed my zmud and logged off, and gotten on latter I noticed that some of my mud info was gone, namily folders created with characters in them. I ignored it cause they are easy for me to get back, cause i keep all of my chars info written down. Then while I was playing. I had a phone call and since I work on a 1 phone-line house system my connect was lost. I got this error again. Ignored it cause I had to awnser the phone. when I went to open my zmud again all my chars were now gone. I believe that this is not suppose to happen that is why I have written this discussion report. I hope that you can help me to solve this problem. and I urge any readers out ther if they know of a way to stop this from happening it would be nice of you to help me. Once again I must say I admire all work on zmud and associated files from Zugg Software.

I cant quite understand your problem.

Do you mean you had zmud running, and connected, and answered the phone without closing zmud or logging off? Or what did you do exactly? And which error message do you get?

Just a hint, zMUD usually saves its settings when you close it, so if it gets killed somehow without closing properly, its possible that you lose some settings.

Vladd, your problem doesn't appear at all similar to the one this topic is about. Please start your own topic, so we can concentrate on finding/solving Karnie's problem here and concentrate on finding/solving your problem in a topic devoted to it. Mixing problems means we don't concentrate on either and just end up confusing everyone.

I carried out the first of your instructions about logging on via Telnet Lightbulb and all my char names and passwords are correct.

I downloaded ZMud version 6.16 and installed it OK. First char I tried I logged onto no bother. I rented and waited the required time limit.

I created another char and connected offline. I then disabled the triggers and tried to connect. 'The lost connection to' message came straight away and I never had a chance to enter my name or password manually.

I've had a look at the atconnect alias. It says %char and is in class system. The trigger By what name do you wish to be known says #ch and in class autolog.

I disabled these before trying to log on and still no joy.

I don't know what else to try at the moment, any more ideas?

Delete the value of the atconnect alias. You don't need to send your name twice and the trigger is the preferred method.

Its working now Lightbulb. I can log in with any char now. I reinstalled Zmud fresh and never imported any scripts. Created char offline, disabled triggers and no problems. Couldn't see that atconnect alias in settings anymore.

    Tnxs for your help.
