proxy server
 
what's the easiest way to find out the ip address of the proxy server i'm behind, and it's port? and how do i tell the difference between a socks3 server and a telnet one?

Well, if you are able to browse the internet, your proxy settings should be in Internet Explorer (or whatever browser you use, I'll list the steps for IE because it is the most prevalent). Go to the Tools menu, Internet Options..., Connections, LAN Settings and check out the settings there.

It is possible, however, that whatever is listed there is an HTTP proxy and wouldn't work for a telnet connection. You can try port 1080 (the default SOCKS port, I believe) with the same IP, but that can be a long shot. Besides that, it's generally easiest to talk to your network administrator (though I recognize this isn't always the best solution in some cases... e.g., asking your school/work admin these settings so you can play games :P)

thanks for the help, but i have yet another question...

now zmud is connecting to the mud, but after it connects, i stop recieving any data from the mud. all i get is "Connected to host such-and-such-mud.com...." and that's it.

any idea what is wrong?
