Remote Access of Zmud |
I cannot connect to port 5555 with my computer at work, I was wondering if there was a way to host zmud on my computer at home, connect to it then use my home connection to connect to the mud. If anyone has any ideas please email me or post a reply.
Thanks,

Depends on what kind of internet trafic gets through your firewall :)
What exactly they allow/disallow through.
Once you know what is allowed through then you can examine your options.
If they have disallowed high ports like 5555 but allow a telnet port 22/23
then you can examine perhaps a telnet proxy running at home. zMud mudding
to home through port 23 then bouncing to your mud at 5555.
There are other ways to tunnel information and an internet search might
reveal something that will work for you.

There is a service at www.gotomypc.com which I got to work here at my work. I have the same problem with a direct connection, a firewall issue. I think the service uses web ports somehow. They have a 60 minute free trial. They do charge about $10/month if you pay for a year, $20 otherwise. But it won't cost you anything to try.
I also tried some freeware (VNC I think is what it was called. Try a search on CNET). I was dissapointed with this (in trials at home on my network it ran very sluggish). Also, I never got it to function at work since it uses ports our firewall won't pass. |
