Characters missing. Chardb.db being overwritten when I load zmud.

Suddenly all my characters are gone.

I still have the chardb.db I was using, but when I start zmud it overwrites it with a blank one containing just the muds and toons it came with originally.

I tried a fresh install and copied over my old chardb.db and the same thing happened.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Is there any chance there is some security built into zmud? I replaced the motherboard on this machine, that's when this started happening.

Also in preferences it wants "Mudchar.dat", but when I look inside chardb.db it's clear that all my character information is in that file in sql 2.1 format.

Did you do a clean uninstall before reinstalling? Maybe there is something left in the registry that is causing issues.

I have tried a clean reinstall on the same system, and a clean install on another system that never had zmud on it before. Same results.

Install it in C:\zMUD instead of C:\Program Files\zMUD

I tried that as well, the problem persists.

Does anyone know if there is a way to extract my data from the chardb file?

It's an ADO database file, if I recall. If MS Access can't open it or if it can't show you the data, the file's fubared.
