Fixing MDAC related problems

zMapper uses the Microsoft MDAC/ADO database software to store your map. The MDAC software can easily get corrupted on your computer, or partially overwritten by installing other software packages. This can lead to all sorts of wierd errors about table validation, or datasets.

A fellow zMapper user tracked down an excellent site for debugging and fixing problems with your MDAC installation. This site has been updated for WinXP SP2, which is notoriously difficult to fix MDAC issues.

Here is the link: MDAC Repair Site

I hope this site is helpful in fixing any MDAC-related problems you might have on your computer.

Apparently the guy who wrote the MDAC Repair program linked above is now charging for it. This is very sad since his program really doesn't do a whole lot.

You might be better off just downloading and running Microsoft's own MDAC Checker program at:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8f0a8df6-4a21-4b43-bf53-14332ef092c9&DisplayLang=en

(or search for "Microsoft MDAC Checker" via Google)

Also, here is a link to the Microsoft Knowledge Base on Troubleshooting MDAC problems: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/232060/

There's another another MDAC Error Fix

I didn't have an error but ran the software and it seems to work.

Both links are still active. Considering that MDAC is a technology that has been transiitoned away, the one's from Dec '08 are probably the latest.
