CMUD Still not Fully Functional Re: Update on Your Request {32927}

Regarding my Cmud, Zmud resisted version as you know, I change the name of the Db so now it loads , but of course I don't have a DB now., that does not fix my CMUD.
So How do I fix this a reinstall, how does that work given the dir seems never to be fully remove. WHICH seems to be the problem from the beginning, IF Zmud and Cmud where truly removed form my system , then there would be no hassle in putting a new version on.
I would like to know the following ,
(1) How do i get a complete working version of CMUD with all of the component working.
(2) How do I correctly set up Cmud for running 3 characters and 3 chat window. There seems to be no obvious way of doing this, In fact my Chat,Group and Clan mud files where not imported.
I manged to get CMud running at lease two hours before it crashed, bug reports where sent.

Also One Character (HALIX) is reading the wrong variable and reporting the wrong return. Should be wielding a Ethereal sword not a Barbed, which belongs to another Charterer (sutex). Doing a search on barbed showed the variable only in Sutex's.

I run three Character at once, (Eternal Darkness Mud)and need my CMUD to be able to do this . The forums are a little vague on this . Iam still not sure if Cmud can Multi play or can't Multi play. Multi screen.
Is CMud just set up to be a single screen client,?; and not a Multi playing,Multi screen client like Zmud.
Cmud does not allow (:) to sent to other windows, through my alias why ?.
Why take Zmud stuff out, that was good.

In wanting to have Chat , Group and Clan, windows with 3 Charterers, and their windows is trying to do this on CMud possible.

Now the good bit.. Cmud ran ( two hours, before it crashed for the 5th time) really fast it was i lot faster than Zumd. So i have the speed but that is it.. :) .. I do like Cmud it it lean, but it really need Muilt player setup functionality to be a lot clear. Or maybe it was just 3am,alias not working and crashes.

Have good day:)

Uninstalling *any* application does not remove any user-created settings file, so that is why it doesn't delete the entire directory. If you want to fully remove something, you need to back-up any user files and then manually delete the directory.

To get a clean version of CMUD, run the installer and select the "Program Files" answer for where to install the application files, and then select the %DOCUMENTS% option for where to install the Data Files. This will put the Data Files into the "My Documents\My Games\CMUD" directory, so you might want to back-up and remove that directory first to avoid getting any previous files.

In general, you should *not* install CMUD into the same directory as your old zMUD files to avoid complications.

CMUD fully supports multi-playing. Just create a "New Session" for each character. If you want each character to have separate script files, then select each character icon and click the "Edit Session" action and go to the Files/Packages tab and change the name of the Primary Package so that each character has a unique package name.

Once the sessions are created, then double-click the first session to log in to it. Then, select the next session from the Session button drop-down menu in the main CMUD toolbar. Keep selecting additional sessions until all three are open.

Now rearrange the various windows the way you want them and then use the File/Save Session As menu option to save this "super-session" to a new session icon.

Now you will have a seperate session icon for each character, but you will also have an additional icon that will automatically open the "super-session" containing all of the other sessions.

When doing this, do *not* try to convert any existing zMUD *.mud files. Just get the clean CMUD sessions set up.

You are asking at least a dozen different questions, and not providing very much information. If you provide enough information, we will try to help, but your questions are very vague and confusing.

No, we here reading this forum and volunteering help do not know. Could you please explain exactly what you did and exactly what happened?

I don't think we can even begin to answer any of the other questions until we understand what you are talking about at the beginning, since it sounds like you had a problem converting some zmud files to cmud.

As for multiplaying, yes, cmud is intended to permit multiplaying. I believe there were some bugs in earlier versions which prevented running multiple chars from a single instance of cmud, and I'm not certain offhand whether those are fixed in version 2.37. Definitely it is not possible to run the mapper for multiple characters in a single instance in version 2.37 (fixed in the current beta, 3.10). However, unlike zmud, you can run several separate instances of cmud. Just click on your cmud icon multiple times to have several separate instances of cmud running at once.

So, please start at the beginning and tell us what happened. What version of Cmud are you running? What version of Zmud were you running and trying to import to Cmud? Exactly how did you do it? What happened? Just start at the beginning, and we can try to work through all your other problems step by step.

PostPosted: Thu Sep 24, 2009 9:39 am   Cmud Zmud still not working

Hi some sleep and here we go..

My Cmud was installed into My\Documents\My Games\ Cmud directory, not Zmud directory. The DB's are still not been read (bug reports Please read), and I would like to know if, I delete Cmud, and reinstall is that going to be an an issues with registration.
Will need to know what special reg key to delete as well, so i can have a complete clean reinstall

There is still a problem with Cmud which I have no-idea what it is so I just tell you what has happened so far.

First I was told by your tech staff after sending off bug reports by the dozen, To delete or rename my DB file because that the problem.
The problem been it was failing to load at all,. It would started and bug window would appear.
Ok , so I rename them. No change still haveing issues with Cmud loading. And when it does there is a one in three chance (iam counting) that in trying to get all three of my charaters loaded (Offline not connected) will result in a crash ( bug window appears)
So i have deleted all of the imported files from Cmud and started again. Re imported ,let it convert, load one charter a t a time.Again the same issues. bug window appears. (please read bug reports) Am not a tech.
The times when I have finally go CMud stable enough ( no bug windows appear) I attempt to connect with my mud On Line, werid stuff starts happening.

(1) the password log in just fails. and yes it's in there, one or more of the Characters take the log in prompt from after i have enter the mud ( past name and password triggers) as log in detail. these details are all ready there in settings. Zmud log in same MUD

(2) variables that belong to one character suddenly get use by another character. , this utterly confuse me as i can see no reason for this as the variable in both have different values , same name but different values., and isn't Halix.mud different form Sutex.mud! Yet Halix one minute is reading his variable and the next starts reading Sutex's variable. Twilight zone stuff. never was a problem in Zmud

(3) As stated before the (:) is not using so I have to edit all of my (:) with (#all), which i have done many times now. This today gave me,a new screen bar at the bottom of CMUD ( first time i seen this one) saying that you can't save as this is READ ONLY, great so I click on force save anyway. it did nothing. Close all windows re opened and files that I have changed had not been saved. This is working with Super Save Session. , I don't know it may help you.:)
(4) My trail scripts worked last night , after editing them, they don't work today. they didn't work even after I had edited them ( may be they just didn't get saved :)
(5)The super session save which I have been using to get all characters into Cmud and work OFFLINE, has all there characters with chat group and clan mud loaded with them, that's clan.mud ect. Is this normal ? In Zumd I only had one character with those extra load with it.
Anyway with chat clan group .mud load with all character, none work, windows fail to load when testing On Line with my mud , no extra window pop-ups . nothing.

So i hope you can understand all of that, It assume that you have assess to the bug reports. to put that and this together. Other wise what's is the point in sending them. Just copy and past all of them here instead. and no i did not save them I just send them off with a description. via send.

Please read other post regarding Zmud, (two days ago for reference )so i can get at least on of my Clients up and running.

If you need more I save the bug reports and post them. with My scripts as well!! :) I think I'll play some CS ...frustration

The crash dump reports go into an automated database for tracking and do not normally get read by a human unless I'm in the middle of programming and working on a specific bug (which I'm not right now for at least another week).

You have a ton of stuff in your message, which is going to make it very hard for people to help.

But my general advice is to stop trying to import your zMUD settings. Get CMUD to work with your session layout FIRST, and then later when you have CMUD working then try to add your scripts. In zMUD you can save your scripts to a text file and then print them out.

The reason for this is that while CMUD is mostly compatible with zMUD, the way multiplaying and multiple windows work in CMUD is completely different than zMUD. Most all crashes that I have seen in CMUD are from badly converted zMUD scripts. zMUD just let people use all sorts of bad script syntax with very little error checking.

Do not try to mess with your system registry keys when reinstalling CMUD. You can safely uninstall, delete, and re-install CMUD without effecting your license key. You only need to re-enter a new license key if you reformat your hard disk or reinstall Windows itself. But if you start messing with registry keys you can easily screw up the copy protection and cause CMUD (and zMUD) to stop working completely.

To make a fresh start with CMUD, all I can suggest is that you backup and then delete all of the files in your "My Documents\My Games\CMUD" directory and then reinstall CMUD and create your sessions from scratch. Then create your MUD sessions in CMUD. Do not try to convert your zMUD files. Just get CMUD working where it can log in to your multiple sessions properly. Take it slowly and one step at a time and make backups of your "My Documents\My Games\CMUD" directory so that if something gets screwed up you can always go back to a previous step.

Ok np , Will attempt o do that , But having fixed my Zmud output problem (see post), and given all my scripts and character work in Zmud.
I'll stick with that for the time been. Give the basic underlining topic of Multi-playing and Multi-screen, maybe this can become a focus in future beta release, you could use Eternal Darkness as template . Like some MUDS have been set up specially for Zmud. Do the same with Cmud.
The suggestion is not with out merit as ED use as it's base Circle with Merc - Dystopia/LoW4 code and with the ability to have 3 character on a once would be a real test of the Mulit-Windows Mulit -Chats, Mulit -Character playing. Getting a future Cmud working these characteristics and using ED as a template would be a benefit to all other players and their Muds. If Cmud works in that environment it will work well on any mud. Just A Suggestion

I believe Zugg said above that Cmud does already fully support multiwindow multiplaying. What can cause a problem is autoconverting Zmud multiplaying scripting into Cmud, which is why Zugg suggested simply setting up your multiple characters and layout, then copying the scripts in.

PostPosted: Sat Sep 26, 2009 3:10 am   CMUD is Good

I hope I haven't come across TOO much like I don't like CMud I do. The issue is with, the simple question if i turn it on will it work?
Now Zmud is the reliable old work horse. I know I can play for hours on my mud with all windows blazing., and it's works, and that's what I want.
When playing Cmud I notice straight away how fast its is , The pkg. idea is brilliant,, and with the other features which are new to Cmud it's makes it a real choice for muddlers.
There is one issue which has been lost on the developers is that only a small percentage of Muds actually allow for players to have Muit characters on at once . So the little things like (:) have been removed from Cmud.
I am one of those small percentage that does play a Mud that allows 3 Characters on at once, to use Cmud becomes problematic.
I expalin, during battlle if i need to send commands. I can just send ":cgr" ,cast group recall which is sent to all char, just in case one is to busy fighting, command, rather than #all cgr. This may seem a small issuse but after typing out #all a for dozen times, you soon wish for the simpler " : " command. The ":" is a shift but it's close and not unituvitive. The # is a shift then key,it's high up on the key board and i have to look to make sure i got. It may not sound like much, but this is why I still think that Cmud is not really set up for player like my self its' more of a One Character mud client.
Please consider this in future issues. My Zmud has all I need for the time been, so Iwill still be using that as my main mud client.
I do think Cmud is good, but lacking,in areas for use with 3 Characters at once. If I was running one Character only I would be using Cmud.

[Edited after checking the documentation]

I believe that Zugg removed the functionality of :command because of problems with the new docking system, which is a third-party product. I can see that switching to using #all instead of : will be a change, but I can't see that it is a showstopper. In many ways, Cmud supports multiplaying a lot better than Zmud. If there are any other problems you have with multiplaying in Cmud, do ask about them. We may be able to help.

Actually, here's a thought. If you have troubles using the # character, you could change it. Click on Options|General. In the Preferences window that pops up, click Scripting, and the Special Characters tab. You can change the character used to specify Cmud commands, from # to any other character you want. If you do this, you would have to change that character in all of your scripts as well.

If that is too extreme for you, you could just make an alias. On your command line, type "#alias all {#all %params}". Now, you can type "all cgr" to have them all cast recall.

Good idea, I like it. Maybe you can figure this out.
In the previous post i mention that one Character was using the varibale of another Character. This happens when I give the "Dress" command to all 3 Characters. They take off all eq and put it back on, and wield their weapon. (all 3 of them) the varibale., for wield have different values assigned. Now this usually works ok once,in Cmud. But if i tell them to dress again one Character starts looking for the weapon of another Character , the other two Characters continue to use their own weapons(wield @primary) as what is defind in their variables values.

Alias dress
remove all;cast 'detect super invisible';#if {^You lost your concentration trying to cast detect super invisible!} {cast 'detect super invisible'};wear all;use all;hold @hold;envenom @primary;envenom @second;wield @primary;grab @second

The wield @primary variable has three different values for three different Character( all 3 have this Alias)

Question is: Why does the Alias "dress"get muck up in Cmud in only one Character.
This Alias "dress" works like a charm in Zmud , no problems.

[quote="Rahab" the Mulit playing on CMUD post

MMM I hear you, yet I am not convinced, if i was a better script writer, then most likely i could get my Character working, in Cmud.
Help with script setup is appreciated, but I am still left with the problems, of Cmud starting up, and the DB issues, which reinstall has not addressed. (see above posted). In short reliability is my main goal at this point. Log-on and play. I know that in future releases, of Cmud will sort these issues, so I just wait. Thanks for the offer of help, maybe you could look at the Good idea post. I am just curious why it doesn't work. As for the (:) command ,there are work arounds (see above post) , which is good, yet it's such a cool command to have when running 3 Multi Charterers. Just " : and command" no spaces, and for me that means fewer typo mistakes he he.

Well, one thing you could try is to remove the duplication of aliases and triggers between characters. Make a separate package which is loaded as a secondary by each character, and put all aliases and triggers that they share into that shared module. We will have to do quite a bit more testing to see what the problem is with the mismatched variable--it should not be possible for one session to even know about the existence of a variable in another session's window, unless you have specifically enabled it to see the other window.

The problem of Cmud starting up, Zugg has already addressed, I believe. Have you tried it?

I don't see any previous reference to DB issues. What issues are these?

Try this:
Click on Settings to open the Package Editor
In the Package Editor, click on the window icon for one session, to see the settings for the window
Look at the "List of packages enabled for this window"
If the package names for the other sessions are checkmarked, remove the checkmarks
Do the same in the package for each of your other sessions

Having the other sessions checkmarked in a session window could allow that session to see the variables for the other sessions, which you do not want.

Yes I have tried reinstall, that was my first solution. The technical staff suggestion was just to rename or delete the DB, CMud made new ones ,yet I was getting SQL errors still, and crashes.I noticed that Cmud was loading the other Charterer pkg in the right column I un-check them . It seem the obvious reason why one character was reading the variable of the other character,. I would un-check them,Cmud would re-check them next time I started Cmud So i would load each Character separably and make sure no other pkg where loaded, then create a super session this would work for a why , until I would get crashes. the variable where still been mismatched werid!. (SQL, and other Tech stuff bugs reports where sent)
In short Cmud on my PC is too unstable I have had problems with getting the program to run from the first time I double click on the Icon.
I have decide to wait until the next full release of Cmud and just continue to use Zmud which has no problems. Hopefully future Cmuds will have a better import system for all the scripts I have pieced together. I don't envy the task of having to re-write everything.
As it is, to play Cmud now I have to sort lots of thing just so I can have reasonable control over my windows. I have reasonable knowledge on how to operate Zmud and uses of the editor for writing my scripts. I am still learning the mapper in Zmud. I really don't want to start another learning cure on new system (cmud) given that it may not work.

I do appreciated the help, yet lets wait, until the Tech staff, or Zugg have looked at the bug reports, or there is and new full release of Cmud. That truly takes into account importing Mulit Character for Mulit playing. Just another reason why I am sicking with Zmud.
I do have enough information, by way of these post, to suggest ways I can tinker with Cmud if Iam feeling that tortured. Rolling Eyes

So again thanks for the suggestions but for the time been I am just going to wait for a better release.

There is no tech staff. Zugg is the only programmer for Zuggsoft.

It's perfectly all right to decide not to use Cmud, if Zmud is working for you. That's your choice, no one will object to it. But I would like to note that Cmud is already supposed to be able to handle multiplaying. It is supposed to work. Almost no one is actually using that feature, and I don't think anyone else has reported problems like these. If you don't help figure out what the problem is, it won't be solved. So far, you haven't really given us enough information to figure out whether the problem is in your settings, or a bug.

Anyway, good luck with your gaming!

This used to be an old issue when someone had software running on their computer that was incompatible with the CMUD/zMUD copy protection. Old versions of AOL anti-spyware software and CA Internet Security Suite used to cause this, but that was two years ago.

So, all I can suggest is to make sure any of your anti-virus, anti-spyware, or network security software is all up-to-date. If that doesn't work, try disabling some of that software. It's definitely an error specific to some other software running on your computer. Look in your Task Manager and close other programs to find which one is incompatible.

And, of course, make sure you have run Windows Update to have the latest version of all the Microsoft patches.

Ok Update... have the latest Cmud on win 7 64 bit , all going good, but your right about one thing the learning curve is great. Ah , if I wanted not to think I would own a gaming console he he:)
The fun part is now converting all my scripts.. ! I mostly use the : command somewhere in Zmud scripts , so I can run 3 characters . Cmud uses the #all command, fun times ahead

Just have some patience with all of us is all I can say after reading through this post. I know some people multiplay on cMUD fine, You just have to try and listen first and try solutions before you come back with but zmud did this.. Guess what? most of what zmud could do, cmud can do, and better.. it just requires some changes, and if you find yourself unable to change code, then ask us, we can help change it for you..
I'm not saying you should abandon cmud at all, just saying if you're frustrated, can come to us for help.

Just an old post thought I'll give it an update ,now I have a win 7 64 bit machine . The latest version of Cmud works well. Have notice some scripting issues, with some simple eat, drink triggers, when I move them from .mud Zmud format to Cmud, but I'll sort them, can do that much!
Other than that . all good. If I need the help I will post .:)
