Running cMUD from a USB drive or SD card?

I currently have zMUD 7.21 and am running it from an SD card since I use it on multiple computers and this way I can take all my setting with me easily. Will cMUD run from a removable drive as well?

CMud and ZMud 7.21 use the same protection scheme, so they should on the basis they both suffer identical limitations (ie, you have to install to each hard drive to get it to work).

CMud has the benefit of a CMud Lite which gets rid of the protection sheme in addition to a few features, allowing you to install anywhere.

All the computers I use zMUD on I have previously installed it on already. What about U3? I have no experience with this, but just purchased two U3 USB thumb drives.

Actually, I play with CMUD off a usb thumb drive. At work I can't install apps on the computer I work on, so my only choice is to install it at home, and then I just copy the directory over to the thumb drive. I THINK that the first time I ran it at work (independently of the installer program, because the directory was coppied) I had to enter in my registration information again so it could write it over to the registry. But I've since upgraded two different versions of CMUD, through the same procedure, without installing anything on my work computer, and I haven't had to enter in my registration information since.

From my experience so far, it works fine if you install it on one computer, then copy it to any other computer and run it, from anywhere. So now my CMUD is completely portable, I even run it at home from the same thumb drive.

The first time you run CMUD on *any* computer, it will ask for your license key and update the system registry. Neither zMUD nor CMUD were intended to be used on public computers so keep in mind that running CMUD on a different computer will leave your license key on that computer.

So it's fine to do this on your work or home computer. Just don't do it on public computers that other people have access to or it will violate the license.

This is always done on my own computers and is done only for the ease of not having to update multiple profiles on multiple computers.

Originally I was running it from a network drive, but was unable to keep the databases sync'd on my laptop so when I left the house I couldn't use zMUD. The SD card worked great.

Thanks for the replies everyone and glad to hear you've had success with this BloodyThorn.
